It was easily one of the best trailers of the entire show and we can't wait to see more.
Now, we've got some technical info for the new PlayStation 4 exclusive from Guerrilla Games, Horizon: Zero Dawn .
According to what Art Director Jan-Bart van Beek told Videogamer , the game will run at 1080p and 30fps, which is pretty standard for games of this type. He also confirmed that Horizon uses the same engine as Killzone: Shadow Fall , but it's a much-improved version:
"It is actually still the same engine but then [there is] an enormous leap from Shadow Fall to this. The Shadow Fall engine isn't an open-world streaming world engine so for the last two years a lot of technological effort has gone into actually being able to make it work like this."
This is guaranteed to be a hugely anticipated game. Hell, it is already.

As a member of the elite gamer race I can't lower myself to playing anything at a paltry 30FPS!

nope this looks incredible!
I'm not confident the gameplay itself will be incredible but it sure as heck looks incredible. That'll be enough for me.
play it on PC then…. pffhaha
#60fpsorweriot!
The interaction between the character and the vegetation was the best I've ever seen. The Witcher III is great and all, but it still feels like Geralt is just running through holograms. Why aren't more developers tackling the collision detection on thick leaves and shrubs?
from what I recall, the character in Horizon only interacted with loose patches of plants, much like AC Black Flag. In Witcher Geralt encounters grass, plants, willows, shrubs, weeds, and countless other foliage to travel through. I'm sure the devs had to ask themselves just how much do we want Geralt to have to struggle walking through this stuff? If they made it too sim-like it'd probably be a chore to move anywhere in such a game that wasn't a pre-defined path.

Thanks for saying foliage and not foilage
So I guess we can assume the 1080p 60fps promise was just another false one.
1080p 60fps is just a myth…
Nope. It was a promise made by Sony and is a reality on the Wii U.
I guess Wii U is the true next gen console 🙂
Seeing you saying this makes me think you were really butthurt by the Nintendo E3 presentation and you want to take it on Sony to make it seem less bad? lol Don't see any other reasons for this out of nowhere attack to my beloved system XD
I own a Wii U and love it but no game has given me a graphical immersion as good as what I have experienced on PS4 so far. 60 fps is good for competitive play like COD and the likes but I personally don't mind the 30fps if it's stable for a nice SP game. 1080p matters a lot to me though.
I don't know why this surprises anyone anymore. Getting 1080p and 60fps has been possible to achieve for ages now. But you make concessions to double the number of images you show each second. It's simple. Clearly, devs are choosing to spend the extra power on physics engines and rendering than they are on fps.
This will continue to happen so long as knocking the fps down to 30 allows them to achieve other visual feats. Games like CoD and WiiU games don't push the buck visually, so it stands to reason it should be easier for them to achieve 60fps.
But that's not Sony's fault. They said there is enough power to do it. They aren't wrong. CoD did it on PS3 already. It's not like they're going to force devs to do it.
Underdog, you are 100% correct in what you are saying. It's exactly how it is.
The problem is that people expected this generation console hardware to be able to deliver those bloody 60 frames at 1080 so easily that it would not be a question of tradeoffs, that it became the norm.
Had I been exclusively a console gamer I would very likely have felt the same, simply cause we humans hate to "miss out" on things. But since I today do all my gaming at quite high framerates (I got a monitor with a refresh rate of 120) I really must say that I don't think it matters that much at all – especially not in the kind of game we have here.
One may claim it matters in games where reflexes are highly important, like most multiplayer FPS games, but when EVERYONE in that game plays at that same framerate anyways that whole argument falls apart.
And for story driven single player/coop adventures? Bah, care. Really!
Still, for those who love to compare numbers, this is annoying. I can relate to that.

You can market pretty pictures. You can't market frame rates. Every PS4 game could run 1080p/60 if that's what publishers wanted, but they want pretty pictures so they can sell you on a pre-order 8 months before release just in case the game turns out like crap.
The way I see it you use 60 on games that aren't massive worlds. There's just too much sh*t to have in place otherwise. Narrow the scope and the FPS goes up, widen it and it goes down.
You got me Neo. Totally butthurt even though I found value in both e3 presentations and have absolutely no problem in admitting Sony owned it. But you keep projecting.
To the rest, I have no doubt it's much much harder achieving 1080p 60fps in games like this or Uncharted or many of the graphically heavy games Sony is working on. I know it's much easier to achieve 1080p 60fps in games like MK8, Smash Bros etc. my only point is that Sony used 1080p 60fps as a pitch for the PS4 as true next gen gaming. Just like they promised remote play for PS3 games on the Vita. But so far they haven't achieved this and it doesn't seem like they will. It's not going to be a reason to pass on any of these games. Not at all. Still disappointing nonetheless.
I'm with you Jawk. I think the big mistake there is that they're promising they'll deliver what isn't at all in their control. Probably not a good business idea. lol
It's in their control when it comes to their first party games, but if they sacrifice visuals for smoother frame rate, some people will complain. If they compromise frame rate for better visuals, other people will complain.
It's a no-win situation, so they go with the loss that's easier to market.
I honestly can't remember if this "PROMISE" was made by Sony that "ALL" PS4 games will hit 1080/60. Correct me if I'm wrong of course.
There will always be give and takes no matter what platform you game on. Even PC. Unless you have unlimited resources then something somewhere has got to give.
That said… I want GOOD GAMES!!!! GREAT GAMES… Heck.. Take me to the moon and beyond. I will probably never be satisfied. Once the Holodeck was shown to me that is what I have wanted all my life. So for now I will enjoy what I get from what we have. Just put in the work developers. We can tell when you care about your art or are just pumping out just enough to collect the dividends.
If they had said "all games", I wouldn't have believed them anyways. lol
Too busy fighting robot dinosaur to even care…
I recommend suiting up in the Hulkbuster suit.
Best new IP at E3 in my opinion. The environments looked stunning. I loved how she hide within the plants and how thick and real they looked. Then obviously the big mechs and how they have their own weakeness to exploit… it looked very impressive. could see myself giving this a go for sure.
I personally didn't get too excited about this one. It looks good but not really a fan of the mech dinosaurs. The Killzone series have always been a disappointing, underwhelming series imo which is probably why this new game of theirs isn't really high on my list.
Regarding dinosaurs I'd rather see Dino Crisis make a comeback. A proper revival, not some space filth that the Xbox spewed out with Dino Crisis 3, what an embarrassment and a foul end to the series that trash left.
I sure hope they got a good explanation in the storyline for those mech dinosaurs, or else yeah, it becomes too gimmicky.
I like the look of Horizon very much and actually thought the last Killzone for PS4 was quite good, though I agree with you 100 percent on Dino Crisis: we NEED a new Dino Crisis made on modern consoles/PC. Can you imagine how fun that would be with today's graphics and gameplay? Holy moly.
obviously mankind used their machines to fight wars and we thought sending mechanized dinosaurs to the middle east would scare the hell out of them but when they went Jurassic Park on the whole World and society collapsed the computer brains used the internet to command the dinosaurs to consider all humans as threats.
Jeez you guys…
