Pachter Says: PS4, Xbox One E3 Price Cuts Are Unlikely

Think we'll see price cuts for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when E3 rolls around?

Don't bet on it, says Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. In an investor's note today, Pachter explained the reasoning behind that prediction:

"We do not expect price cuts for the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. We do not expect Microsoft to permanently cut the price of the Xbox One without Kinect from $399, instead focusing on compelling bundles with first- and third-party content, with some of the applicable games included as free pack-ins."

He added that he thinks the Xbox One price point will revert back to $399 after having been discounted to $349 for much of 2015. Of course, not long after this prediction, Microsoft proved him wrong by announcing that $349 would be the new permanent retail price moving forward. Which means he could very well be wrong about Sony and the PS4, too.

As for why Sony won't drop the price of their system, it's simply because PS4 continues to outsell Xbox One. But for how long, Pachter…?

this guy can go f himself. hes usually been wrong, for the most part. so his credibility should be thrown out the door at this point.

sony would be absolutely stupid to not drop a price and or announce the new model at e3. they will have literally shot themselves in the foot. doesnt matter how many games they announce at e3 (since most of them wont arrive til 2016) but if ms ends up dropping the price and sony is still standing there with their dicks in their hands, then were gonna lose major ground.

Don't we already have good evidence that Sony is gonna take the price down a notch by adding a new SKU?

Yes. Exactly. The PS4 500GB will receive a price drop.
Sony knows very well they'll get slaughtered again during the holidays if they don't become more price competitive. They'll likely lose either way but they can at least take a bigger chunk. This is especially the case with the MS crown jewel franchise Halo 5 launching.

Edit: it also won't take long for people to realize that Star Wars battlefront is also on XO

I think the only way the new SKU will come in at a lower price point is if the rumours are true and it's a slim model PS4. Slim models generally cost less to manufacture, so that's a real possibility. Sony gets faster and faster with their slim models every generation so the timing is about right for a PS4 slim.

I have a nasty habit of buying the new slim models every time a new one is released… so my budget is hoping it's just a 1TB upgrade 😉

i'd be inclined to disagree with him i think for sake or remaining competetive a price cut is coming its only a matter of when at this point and E3 would be a perfect place to do it

happy gaming
