Every time we turn around, we hear about more gamers who are ticked off that a video game trailer wasn't to their liking.
What can be even more incendiary is if a game doesn't live up to promotional trailers, and we've seen plenty of evidence of that in recent years ( Alien: Isolation , Watch Dogs , The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ).
But for these very reasons, we shouldn't be passing judgment on games based on early trailers. Gamers are saying some not-very-nice things about that debut video for Fallout 4 and I can't understand why. It's like nobody learns anything or has any memory retention whatsoever. We really haven't learned by now that we should take early demo trailers with a grain of salt? Really? What's it take?
Look, think logically. Is there any chance Fallout 4 is going to look like crap when it comes out? Honestly, is there? And don't forget that given the setting – which is understandably bland and stark – is pretty harsh. There's not going to be a lot of lush backdrops and rich coloring and rightly so. It wouldn't fit the presentation. Therefore, if we accept that the style fits the theme and developers at Bethesda will never in a million years launch a product that would get a 5 in the graphics department, what are we complaining about?
One minute, gamers are saying developers shouldn't be showing trailers so early. The next minute, they're freaking out that they haven't seen any media for a newly announced game. Then, when they do get that media, they act like the title in question launches tomorrow and we're watching finalized footage. It just boggles the mind.

Does anyone remember what happened with Watch_Dogs? That E3 announcement trailer was so good that it set unreasonable expectations for the game. When the launch trailer didn't come close, Ubisoft caught a lot of flak for it and they deserved to. So many people were saying, "this looks like s**t" that they kind of missed that it really didn't. It only looked bad compared to what they'd led us to believe we were getting.
I'll give Bethesda credit for not going overboard. The trailer-done in engine, I believe-actually looks pretty cool. They're at least not promising what they can't deliver. If this is what I can expect, then I'll take it and love it.

I agree that Ubisoft deserved it. It wasn't even a trailer, but gameplay. Same with witcher. It's one thing to show a beautiful, non gameplay cutscene trailer, but it's a whole other ballgame to show a gameplay trailer that makes the final look bad.
Also Ben, I think the problem here is that this is a backward situation with all those examples given here. The other problem is the trailer doesn't indicate early alpha footage or something. Not saying the gamers should complain, that it's all about the graphics, or anything but that dog was pretty horrible looking, you have to admit lol.
In all serious, it may seem immature with all these complains, but imo, for the most part, there are reasons behind it. Now personally, I wouldn't mind such graphics shown in the trailer. The character models probably the only thing that I think should definitely improve. It's like a mix of team fortress graphics with realistic 3d graphics. Kinda weird.
I thought it looked fine, and if "less than revolutionary" graphics is what it takes for a less buggy experience then I'm all for it
It's not about the graphic, it's all about the gameplay…
The environments in that Fallout 4 trailer looked great, but then those plasticy looking character models show up and the contrast to the environments seemed a little…well, weird.
And that horrid looking dog with not-so-great dog walking animation didn't help.
But trailers usually go the other way don't they? Like the famous killzone 2 and watch dogs trailer – they look better than the actual game. I hope that isn't the case here.
Remember the running in 3 and New Vegas? It reminded me of SUPER old movies where someone would just jog in place and they would have a screen moving behind them.
Killzone 2 was better than that cgi trailer. Digital foundry did a huge investigation when they compared both.
I swear people WANT to be Watch_Dogg'd.
When I watched the trailer all I did in my mind was to compare it with how it would have looked in Fallout 3, and from that perspective I thought it looked great!
Either way, while I am one to appreciate good graphics but with this particular franchise my focus is elsewhere. I'm sure the visuals will be plenty good enough (heck I even thought Fallout 3 and New Vegas looked pretty good and they received a lot of flak).

I'm not going to buy Fall Out 4 but I am open minded enough to say that it's going to be a great game. A game like this doesn't need over the top graphics. A game like this would thrive on side quests, customization options, replay value, map size, story options/endings etc.
Let's not forget to mention that making games and trailers is not as easy as it may seem. So much goes into it before you get it at the store and put it/download it to your console. I don't get excited about games until it's like a week or two from the release date.
The game is probably 2 years out, plus I dunno what they have in their heads but the textures are exponentially better than Fallout 3.
TWO more years? Wash your mouth boy.
Don't worry, Beam, it'll release fall 2016.
Bethesda games don't generally have what one might call top tier graphics, I don't know what people were expecting.
Personally I could care less about graphics. Gameplay and storytelling are my top 2 things to look for in a game. As long as those 2 are top notch, then it can be a great game no matter how it looks.
yeah well i just hope they don't pull crap move but make it way better than tha tralier wich i am sure it will be other wise everyone would be like wth happen
happy gaming
