Take-Two Boss Speaks Out Against Microtransactions

Downloadable content and microtransactions are often discussed in the video game world.

As for microtransactions, one of the industry's leading men has offered his opinion; it's Take-Two Interactive chief executive Strauss Zelnick. Speaking during this week's 43rd Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference (as cited by GameSpot ), Zelnick made it plain that consumers don't want to feel ripped off:

"You never want to the consumer to feel as though you've picked their pocket. You want a consumer to feel like you gave them a great experience. You want them to be happy that they spent money on the experience."

Then Zelnick addressed the free-to-play companies, who "have focused entirely on monetization" and as such, creativity takes a hit. He added that his company doesn't look at it that way at all, and they simply give consumers "what they love doing." Can't argue with that logic.

I still can't believe people fall for this microtransaction nonsense in the first place but hey, it works.

That's funny considering how hard they made it to make money in GTA5 then charge up to $99 via DLC if you want to score some quick in-game cash.

They probably don't view $99 as a microtransaction and consider themselves exempt.

There are different transaction tiers tes. The lowest one is definitely a micro transaction.

Of course they are against pay to win microtransactions.

They probably want everyone else to adopt what I have lovingly dubbed "macrotransactions", where you pay once for the game, then you pay for DLC that can be purchased more than once, if you are nuts enough to do so, like their annoying pay to win shark cash cards.

I do admire the glean on their big brass balls for trying this business model, but I think all pay to win DLC is dumb regardless of it coming 99 cents at a time, or 99 dollars at a time.
