Ben-DutkaFor months now, some gamers have been accusing developer CD Projekt Red of downgrading the visuals in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt .
That's simply because the final product doesn't look quite as good as the stunning VGX Trailer that debuted last year.
Now, the studio has come forward with an explanation. In a recent Eurogamer interview , co-founder Martin Iwinski first explained that developing the game for consoles didn't hold back the PC edition. They simply couldn't afford to launch the title only for one platform:
"If the consoles are not involved there is no Witcher 3 as it is. We can lay it out that simply. We just cannot afford it, because consoles allow us to go higher in terms of the possible or achievable sales; have a higher budget for the game, and invest it all into developing this huge, gigantic world."
He added that they could probably get more out of the game if they made it exclusive to PC, just as if they made it for only PS4 or Xbox One. The game would be "so focused" that way but again, they couldn't afford to do that. As for whether or not the graphics were downgraded, that isn't really true.
The VGX footage was captured on PC and taken from a "vertical slice" of the game. This means that not only was the demo built to run in the highest possible fidelity, but it also didn't have to run the entire open world. And while CD Projekt Red didn't mean to mislead anyone, Iwinski said:
"Maybe we shouldn't have shown that [trailer], I don't know."
The end result is still pretty great-looking. Maybe we shouldn't complain too much.

I think people are so used to Ubisoft's shenanigans with this kind of thing by now that any time there is a disparity between trailers and final gameplay people cry foul.
Everything I've heard from friends playing this now, be it on PC or PS4, is that the game looks killer. Good enough for me.
"Downgraded" is a popular word lately. But whatever, witcher 3 look good enough for my eyes…
They shouldn't have said "in-game" footage at the start there.
It still looks nice though. Maybe the XO is to blame.
Waaaaaa, I'm a PC gamer, Waaaaa my stuck up attitude doesn't allow me to enjoy a game because it's on the same level as console, Waaaaaa Waaaaa Waaaa. I hate PC DORKS. The Witcher 3 is actually not bad. It's something a little different and has me contemplating deleting that trash known as DESTINY for good.
Maybe they should offer the alternative. A game that's too much for their console to play.
Oh wait, they'll still complain.

The game is gorgeous. Dragon Age looks prettier (not character wise, but everything else wise) but Witcher 3 does not look like crap. At this point I'm convinced people are saying this about any game thats popular.
Also, thanks Ubisoft. This is literally your fault.

Uh, no.
Dragon Age was clean looking but that was about it, there were never any moments that truly brought awe to the player. The graphics were inconsistent at best in terms of realism, art, and design. Witcher on the other hand delivers a very believable world, and has plenty of moment where the scenery truly blows the player away. While the Witcher 3 by no means looks as good as something like the Order 1886, its definitely more impressive than Dragon Age Inquisition.
DA: Inquistion had very nice skin. Probably the best I've seen on a console. People's faces looked almost creepy real at times.

okay so if it was done on PC we can't complain cos the visuals on PC are just always better these days thats just how it is so don't complain guys i'm sure it looks fine guys on the ps4 cough cough jk lol couldn't help myself
