Sony continues to dedicate plenty of money and resources to Project Morpheus.
The company's new virtual reality headset should have plenty of software when it finally arrives next year, thanks to hard-working internal teams.
As Sony confirmed to GameSpot , a new team called North West Studios is now hiring and their focus is VR. The team already includes personnel from Evolution Studios ( MotorStorm , Driveclub ), and now they're looking to dive into a new era of gaming. Said a Sony spokersperson:
"We are dedicated to producing high quality experiences for Project Morpheus, and the creation of this studio allows us to build a small but highly experienced team who can utilise their skills to showcase this exciting new immersive technology.
We're always look to relocate staff throughout the studios, and this is no exception. The new team will be made up of a combination of Evolution staff members and new talent, with a focus on hiring the most highly experienced team possible."
We'd heard that Evolution was sampling Project Morpheus for Driveclub , so they've already got some experience. It seems plausible that one of the first available titles for Project Morpheus will be a racer of some kind.
What kind of game would you like to see in VR? Is there a particular genre that most appeals to you when involved in "full immersion," so-to-speak?
I'd like to play a game like Journey (maybe in first person perspective) in VR. Or Portal, that would be fun.
I want a wheel that works with Driveclub and then this thing on my head. Someone FINALLY got the cockpit view right in a car game and I'd love to be immersed in it in VR.
However, more than that I'd like those big open world first person adventures like Fallout 4 and Elder Scrolls to work with it, however unlikely.
As long as it doesn't become any old extra peripheral then we are in business. It may take the FPS games to do it. Even Xboxers might consider COD in VR.
I'm down with that, COD: campaign for VR and multiplayer for the consoles and PC, they got 3 devs, they could make it happen.
I think horror game can be more scarier while wearing this, walking through bloody hallway can be so horrifying and you will shit yourself…
Awesome. I hate to say it, but this should have been done long ago with the Move. I know there were many people who just weren't interested, and truthfully I don't blame them. The technology was there, it worked great, but it never really got the full backing from Sony or developers.
If this amount of effort was put into the Move, that studio may still be here and they could have integrated VR into their focus. Instead of the PSEye reading the player movement from on top of the TV, the Morpheus could read it right from the players head.
I'm just rambling now. I feel that the Move died out before anybody could tap into its true value. I'm really excited for VR though, and it looks as though Sony is dedicating the funds and manpower to it so it doesn't end up like the move.
VR headsets will be ideal of POV HD Movies if you know what I'm talking about 😉
wonder if we can get a motorstorm/rally type game with this studio that would be cool maybe??? but it'll be interesting what they come up with
happy gaming
