Hey Konami, just think: If you had backed a true Castlevania: Symphony of the Night sequel, you would've received a similar outpouring of love from the fans.
As it stands, it's SotN producer Koji "IGA" Igarashi who is reaping the love.
His Kickstarter project for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night – which many consider to be a spiritual successor to SotN – has now raised well over $2 million. That is four times the originally projected goal of $500,000.
Thanks to the extra money, we will now receive local co-op, Boss Rush mode, cheat codes, and a voiceover performance from Metal Gear Solid veteran David Hayter. And IGA and Co. have until June 12 to add to the total; at $2.25 million, we get a special retro level; at $2.5 million, we earn Classic Mode. In this mode, pieces of the game will be worked into a linear experience that "reward[s] timing and survival instead of backtracking and exploration."
As an update on the project's Kickstarter page reads:
"IGA and company are still too early in the planning process to promise anything, but right now he's envisioning six punishing stages. In grand classic platformer fashion, you'll be weaker and the enemies will be stronger, and forget about saving yourself by grinding–no RPG elements here.
If you've always preferred your castles punishingly difficult, straightforward, and scrolling from left to right, this is the stretch goal for you."
Eh, not for me. But I'm sure others will be happy. I'm just happy this game is going to end up on store shelves.

Hmm if the levels design are not broken like the first Castlevanias on the NES, this gonna be a must have for me.
Maybe now they can make it look better .Not a fan of the art style but wether it will look like the pics or not , i ll buy it if its anything like Sotn .

Heh I feel like after MGS5 it's game over for Konami in the core gamer scene. They just seem clueless.
Anyhow this is great news and I will get this game hot n fresh when it's ready. I didn't know this producer was also the guy behind Rhondo of Blood (the best of the original gameplay format castlevania's). That PSP/vita collection Dracula X Chronicles has the two best castlevania's bundled together. (You can unlock SotN from like level 2). Apparently the PSP version is superior to the PSX version, which includes added game play content. They also re-did the voice work. Which sort of bugs me. While the voices sound the same the dialogue has been updated. My favorite line from Dracula that ends with "HAVE AT YOU!" was changed.
And I believe Rhondo of Blood for consoles can be had from the Wii Play store. For those who have a Wii.
