Destiny’s Registered Users Hit 20 Million

World of Warcraft may be on the way down, but the future should be bright for Destiny .

During Activision Blizzard's latest earnings report , we learned that Bungie's multiplayer shooter has now hit 20 million registered players, well up from the 16 million number announced back in February.

Activision says the popular title continues to see "strong engagement," as active players spend about three hours playing Destiny on a daily basis. The game has also enjoyed "strong digital sales and expansion attach rates," even though the publisher didn't come forward with any specific stats. Lastly, they've got plans for more support content this summer; a "major content release" is in the works.

That content just might be called "The Taken King" but we don't have a confirmation just yet.

Three hours playing destiny? There must be a lot of kids with far more than 3 hours daily. Statistics can be presented in a certain way to try and fool the audience.

"Registered users". I only played the public Beta and I'm still registered as a Destiny player.

I even got a weapon for free about two months ago.

So, how many of those 20 million actually bought the game and how many still play the game?

Registered users is people who created a character on the full retail game.

For reference, in January the registered users was 17 million. So in 3 months it has grown by 3 million.

I play once in awhile, only because I payed 100 bucks for the piece of crap. Once I'm done with the House of Wolves, I'm deleting Density.

Interesting to see this site still covering Destiny. I thought most people here hated the game?

People tend to use whatever measuring stick they want, at any given time. One games quality will never be measured in the exact same way as another.

From memory, I have never ever seen a new IP gain as much attention, as much play-time, as many copies sold, or as much DLC/updates from the dev, as Destiny has. But yet, it is still 'trash' and the game that is 'cool' to hate on. It is an amazing foundation for a franchise that could be incredible.

I remember a time when games were purely for entertainment, not for spreading hate.

Had a break from it to play other games (for about 8 months). Came back to it about a month or so ago and really enjoying it again, mainly due to playing with a group of other players on raids and strikes.
The actual mechanics of the game are very solid, if you were basing a review on just that alone it would probably be around a 9. The let down, and everyone will agree considering the amount of hype, is the story. It could have been a lot more.

Still playing it. Its a shameless grind to rank up/unlock but still fun. Think ive put more hours into Destiny than Advanced Warfare this year.
