Say "thank you," PlayStation 4.
Sony's video game division has posted a $404 million operating profit for the fiscal ending April 2015, and this was due at least in part to continued strong sales of their flagship console.
The PS4 reached 14.8 million units worldwide during the previous 12-month period, and Sony expects to sell 16 million more consoles before April 2016 is over. Unfortunately, the portable division (including the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV) continued to fall, coming in at only 3.3 million in total sales for the financial year. That's down from the 4.1 million posted the year prior. Unsurprisingly, PS3 hardware and software continued to decline as well.
But thanks to a "significant" increase in Network revenue along with solid software and hardware sales in the PS4 department, the year was a good one. The overall picture is rosy as well, as Sony Corp. posted a $576 million profit, which is a huge 159 percent year-over-year increase.
In fact, the recent numbers confirm Sony's biggest annual operating profit in the past seven years. Yep, they're definitely on the upswing.
When PS4 slim comes out, we can say goodbye to Wii U and Xbox One.
I once read about Sony posting losses after losses and that Sony is going down by 2016 or 2017.
Did I read a wrong news?
Yep, most people I know haven't bought a new console simply because they are doing exactly that waiting for the PS4 slim.
Sony as a whole has been struggling and they have had to trim a lot of fat over the past year, for example selling off Vaio, but last I heard they were doing significantly better. Not "great" but far better than before.
Most recently we had the sale of SOE for an undisclosed but seemingly insane amount of money.
Thank you ps4
Now with all that money I hope Sony can make me another gran turismo and new resistance game…
well that is pritty good considering everything going on at sony atm, yeah maybe sony isn't going out of business after all lol
happy gaming
Profits in gaming for once! Party over heeeeeere, party over theeeeeeere, Party every wheeeeeeere!
My PS4 library is growing like cat hair. It must be very easy to get games onto the system. Granted they aren't AAA (those days may be gone) but they are fun.
Now to wait for the news about my dividends! It actually might already be out, admittedly… Lately, with trying to launch my own business, I've let my investments sit and grow without doing any management. No idea what they've done since… like… November. lol
Mine are doing pretty well. George Bush cut them in half but Obama brought them back and added to them so I'm happy. Might even dip in and treat myself.
