Has Call Of Duty Successfully Reinvented For A New Generation?

It's the question many of us had heading into the new generation:

After a perceived waning in terms of quality and popularity, how would Activision tackle the issue of rekindling excitement in the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise?

Of course, every CoD since Modern Warfare has sold a ridiculous number of copies, even the installments toward the end of the previous era (including Ghosts ). They weren't smashing records every time you turn around, but the series was hardly on life support. That all being said, CoD was a frequent whipping boy in the gaming community and everyone, even the die-hard fans, agreed that they needed to see something better in the PS4/Xbox One generation.

Well, are we seeing it? I thought Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was a definite step in the right direction, and based on what we're seeing and hearing from Black Ops III , it looks like the series is primed for more advancement. The reveal trailer is plenty engaging and the first batch of gameplay details is also encouraging. More dynamic, more features, more expansive, and twists on the gameplay…what more can we ask for?

Yeah, I know there will always be a hefty number of haters and general detractors. It's that way with anything absurdly popular. And trust me, I was one of many who called for a reboot of sorts after Ghosts . While AW wasn't really a "reboot," it still rekindled my faith in the series; at least to some extent. Now, BOIII might keep pushing things forward…

What do you think?

Uh… It looks exactly like AW mixed in with Titanfall and seasoned with Black-Ops 2.

It's definitely reinvented, but it's no longer CoD.

I've been a fan since the original, and was definitely one of the CoD faithful last gen who were asking for change and something new.
But by that I meant a new engine (which we got) and new ideas that didn't completely ditch the real world. The first four games (minus the terrible 3rd effort by the then new to shooters Treyarch) all progressed and were very different from one another, while at the same time at least tried to stay grounded in reality. After that we got a couple of reskins with some sci-fi elements, and for the last few years we've just been getting sci-fi games with CoD attached to the name.

I'm not sayin CoD was ever realistic, but I used to play with a M21, silenced MP5 and Claymores. In AW I'm using some laser gun with a spike ball that comes from a launcher on my wrist all while floating in the air with a jet pack. It doesn't need to be completely realistic, but I liked it when at least all the equipment I was using had real names and were real things that actually exist. Battlefield is really the only modern shooter that tries to stay accurate now. And while it's done very well, I prefer the feel of CoD, and I gotta have my search and destroy. It's back to CS for me until someone makes a game more in tune with CoD4.

Sorry for the rant.

And btw, I love sci-fi. I just like my sci-fi, sci-fi, and my military shooters, military shooters, and that's what I thought CoD was always supposed to be. It seems like they ran out of ideas on how to make military shooters accurate, while at the same time different. So they took the easy way out and just started making things up. It was done well with MW2 and Black ops, but now it's a different beast all together.

There is no innovation just rehashes.

After completing the single player story, which was ok, and playing Advanced Warfare online multiplayer for a couple of months, it felt like a rehashed Black Ops 2 with boost jumping.
They haven't removed the annoying sniper quick-scoping.
Some of the maps have areas set up for camping.

I'm done with CoD.

I admit I'm excited for this, which is a little out of character for me.

But when it comes to ads and promos for CoD, I've also learned to take it with a grain of salt. The actual releases never look as good as the trailers and videos for some reason.

it seems that not matter how far it might go down it seems like it might be here to stay and it will always do big numbers and bit money every year i've sorta come to that conclusion i've come to i don't know if i want to spend my energy on it anymore its kinda tiring just thinking about.

but yeah it'll still be a rehash like most year for awhile now.

happy gaming
