Developer DICE and the Battlefield franchise are well known for the sheer amount of destruction players can generate.
And while the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront will feature such dynamic environmental interaction, the designers won't over do it.
In a new Engadget interview , DICE general manager Patrick Bach explained the difference between a "Battlefieldgame" versus a "Battlefront" game:
"Star Wars, as an [intellectual property], is shaping what we're doing. So we won't do excessive destruction just because we can. It's more about 'what do you need and what you want' in a Battlefieldgame versus a Battlefrontgame."
This builds on the previous point made on the game's Twitter page : "We're using destruction where it make sense but also working to create something that is authentic to the universe." Obviously, as the game will cater to "Star Wars" fans, you don't want to blow up the entire set. That set is the key draw for many; a barren wasteland isn't reminiscent of Lucas' iconic franchise, now is it?

I love the option to see stuff fall apart or explode. There was so much fun to be had in Red Faction: Guerrilla. It's surprising that we haven't more games this gen try to push the boundaries of physics and destruction.
"We can't get it working properly before it releases in time for the movie. So here's some bs excuse."
I thought the most satisfying moment in Star Wars would be to see the mother ship of your enemy blowing up or somethin'(but I'm not really a huge fan so I wouldn't know much :P).
I am very thrilled to hear this. I was concerned that Battlefront would be Battlefield Star Wars Edition, and now it seems that I can rest easy.
I want Battlefront. Thank you very much!
I think I'll be pleased either way. Whether this is true to the original Battlefronts, a reskin of Battlefield or a mix of both I think I'll be happy. It's a new Star Wars game!
