Ben-DutkaThanks to the release of the new Nintendo 3DS, the PlayStation 4 was knocked from its #1 perch in February.
But Nintendo's new handheld couldn't earn a repeat performance. According to the March NPD numbers , Sony's console was once again top dog for the month in the US.
Overall, the month wasn't as good as March 2014 in terms of hardware: Sales of consoles and handhelds hit $311.1 million this year, compared with last year's $393.4 million. But NPD analyst Liam Callahan adds the following:
"Console hardware was the primary culprit responsible for the March 2015 sales decline, with a 29 percent, or $104 million decrease, in spending while portable hardware rose by 71 percent over last year."
As for software, Battlefield: Hardline was atop the game chart, with the PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne , coming in at #2. Remember, though, these statistics only include physical sales of games; it was recently revealed that From Software's challenging action/RPG was actually ahead of Hardline on the PS4 digital list .

"March 2015 software sales showed growth across all three eighth generation consoles (PS4, Xbox One, Wii U), collectively increasing by 58 percent versus March 2014. This is a sign of the health of the eight generation console space; especially when considering the strong March 2014 software releases (as a comparison) such as Titanfall and inFamous: Second Son."
i have been considering getting a wiiu. ebay has had them for like $250 new. not in a huge hurry to get one but have been considering it. makes me wonder what came out on ds in feb that it took off like that.
i have friends that would not touch the ps3 getting ps4. i find it funny. they talked a lot of crap about ps3. one guy got rid of his ps3 for a 360. none of them are getting a xbone though.
I bought a new WiiU for my son with 3 games for 250 just over a year ago. This was at Gamestop. I'm sure you can get it cheaper than that.

Meanwhile haven't touched my XB1 in over a month. Might trade it in towards thw WiiU. Ps4 and WiiU Ftw!
Nintendo could use some Wii U sales. If VGchartz is to be believed the PS Vita is currently outselling, as in the weekly rate, the Wii U by a fair margin. The PS3 and Wii U are currently neck to neck

Good performance by the Sony exclusives, nice to see as both are great games.
The industry really need to get stats for digital sales soon. It becomes less and less relevant, the physical numbers.
frylock, I can highly recommend the wiiu as a 'companion' console – there's a good catalogue of games and for pure fun, it gets a lot of love from me. Also LOVE the offscreen play, much better than the PS4 on vita / xperia, it's seamless.
With the big increase of digital downloads, I hope the next gen of consoles don't forego hard copies in an attempt to keep shipment costs down.
yeah thats interesting enough yeah thought once things dyed down that the ps4 was back on top, as for the games not really all that surprised tbh
