Some brave investor just so needs to back this idea.
In the best April Fool's Day prank we've seen this year, Sony released a fake announcement video for PlayStation Flow, a futuristic device that lets you play games underwater.
The company says they want to take the hobby "out of the living room and into the swimming pool," which is just plain funny. The bogus accessory comes with goggles, arm bands, and even a specially-made body dryer. Perhaps best of all, you don't really need a pool for this little toy (just watch until the end of the video). Flow is one of those things you almost wish was real, just so you could try it…although you know you'd never really use it much.
The industry will never progress unless we try new things, right? Radically new things. Crazy loopy new things.
at least they have a sense of humor.
They sent me an email about it,which i read after 12PM so jokes on them…..HAHA
The one April Fools joke that would piss me off is if Square Enix themselves came out and said "We're doing the much wanted Final Fantasy VII reboot, seriously." and then punked us. Not like a web site doing it man, them doing it.
I can actually see that happening they are so out of touch.
Wouldn't the joke be on them, though? Teasing themselves with all the money they could make?
Sony actually spent money on a fake commercial? I didn't know they were in such a great financial position they can start wasting resources like that all of a sudden…
Maybe they should consider putting those resources on real things, 'ya know finishing stuff like The Last Guardian instead?? Well, that's Sony for ya…
You fell for the joke didn't you.. 🙂
um.. no.. considering I saw it right here that's kinda hard to do 😉
For those who thumbed me down, you're seriously telling me you want Sony to spend millions of dollars on fake april fools prank commercials??
millions? no. there is no way they spent any where that much on a commercial. that was worth the money just like paying "kevin butler" to advertise for them. its for fun. gaming is for fun. sony is THE game company to push for FUN games.
when its your business to entertain, doing things to make people happy or laugh makes them like your company. customer relations are key and this commercial was for us customers. amazon put up a fake front page. not taking part makes your look boring. sony is not going for boring.
but for the record i didnt down thumb you either.

Yeah calm down and have a sense of humor dude.
I don't know where you got millions from. Looks like they used greenscreen and existing locations. Most expensive part was probably building the props which looked liked cheap molded plastic and is easy to do. I'm also pretty sure the money for advertising is not the same money they allocate for game development. It's not like they took time or money away from developers to do this.
You check your Thumbs downs?
ok millions might be stretching it for this "commercial" alone, but it's clearly not a low-budget production either, so they definitely spent some coin on it.
Difference with Kevin Butler is that was actually advertising their PRODUCT, not some fake april fools joke noone's going to see anyway.
Yeah GAMING is for fun, not doing (not very funny anyway) fake commercials for fake stuff.
Yeah fake front pages really must've cost amazon an arm and a leg huh? sheesh how can a startup like amazon afford that kinda cash? 😉
mk ultra you seriously think Sony get some kind of free advertising budget that somehow doesn't affect any other part of their business?
Anyway I'm not saying this will make Sony bankrupt, all I'm saying is for a company that's been in the red for… ahh well since like the 80's… it's kind of interesting what they spend their money on is all… if you want them to spent it on weird videos instead of games, or err like real advertising then sure.
No. Sony has a huge advertising budget, just like any other corporation. I said the money they set aside for advertising and game development is budgeted differently. If they didn't make this video, the money would have gone to another advertising campaign. It wouldn't have gone to the developers, and the ad didn't take any resources out of the developers hands.
And people probably thumbed you down for being a stick in the mud on April fools day. Not because they want Sony to waste money.
