Bloodborne Better Hit Big Because PS4 Requires A PR Boost

Yes, I know PlayStation 4 is still beating Xbox One rather soundly throughout the world.

That's not what I'm talking about, though.

Thus far in the new generation, gamers have been talking about the same thing: PS4 exclusives have been found wanting. Sure, there are some great games out there but none have really enraptured critics and gamers. Some, like Killzone: Shadow Fall and The Order: 1886 , have been downright bashed by reviewers and consumers alike. This just isn't the PlayStation ecosystem long-time fans know and love.

I'm really not seeing a lot of positive headlines for PS4 right now, aside from the NPD sales updates that arrive every month. I think it's amazing that Sony continues to beat out Microsoft and considering my extreme dislike of M$, I kinda like it. But neither company has really come in strong with exclusive titles this generation and if Microsoft gets the edge in that category…well it'd be a topsy-turvy game world, that's for damn sure. Bloodborne needs to be great, not for sales, but for the general PlayStation 4 reception .

Maybe you guys hadn't noticed but leading up to the PS4, it was a veritable love-fest surrounding Sony. These days, while PS4 keeps selling, everyone seems to find something negative to say about the system. Bloodborne needs to step up, that's all I'm saying.

I'm about year in now with a PS4 and I'm loving it overall. There's been a good mixture of quality Sony exclusives like Order and Drive Club and strong multiplats like Dragon Age.
I'm even enticed by Bloodborne. Something I wasn't initially compelled by. Those new trailers have my interest piqued.

Gamers have become a highly opinionated picky beast so trying to please them all will never happen. The ps4 is doing fine and MS is doing nothing to make their grass seem greener.

Word. I'm almost fully on PS4 now except for a few old titles I still like or haven't finished on PS3, including Japanese games that couldn't make PS4. But now most games are crossing over and my library is growing.

Got about 13 PS4 games.

I really and truly have almost nothing but positive things to say about the system and the games. It's just awesome. And the games coming this year, starting with bloodborne, are just fantastic. Arkham Knight? MGS5? Star Wars Battlefront? Whatever other exclusives Sony has cooking? The mountains of amazing indies you can get on the cheap? This is going to be a landmark year for gamers who can get over themselves and stop being so needlessly negative.

Yup.I am happy with my PS4 and can not play the PS3 anymore though I still have plenty games left unfinished.I would rather play games like Shadow of Mordor which I am on PS4 as it is a better experience regardless of being multiplat/cross generation. The landscape of gaming has changed and people who buy annual releasing or only certain games are to blame for that.Buy something other than GTA and COD and you would not have this generation going so slow.Play more than multiplayer and you would get more variety in games.

Atm this gen as been the multi platform gaming one, all exclusives were average or remakes,no wonder Sony it's winning the multis are better on the PS4.

Bloodborne gonna be the first AAA exclusive this gen but again it's a game for a niche audience.

unfortunately.

as you said, the multiplat games is whats keeping the ps4 afloat since most of them run better. we cant keep doing so and say oh well at least that game is better on our system. we need more/better exclusives.

whats the next exclusive after bloodborne? until dawn? which doesnt have a release date yet. mlb15? the division? come on sony. and no, i really dont care to see gow or ratchet and clank

Does Bloodborne have broad appeal? I mean I know I've made myself clear that I don't care for it, but is it really what you'd define as a system seller? I just don't see it myself.

No obviously it isn't, The Order was the game that Sony needed to be really good, even with the 4/10 reviews it got looks like sold decently, Bloodborne could get 10/10 Reviews next week and still not sell more than the Order.

No seller, but with high scores and lots of praise it may still qualify as "PS4=good and diverse games"

This release will please the fans as it should.
It'll not do much more than that, and that doesn't matter much.

yeah i can see what ur saying and u are right i have to admit the PR for the ps4 could use a bit of a boost it hasn't been that great so yeah sure and bloodbourne could be that thing and i hope so as i am in the ps4 camp i like to be able to boast my console a little every once in awhile and that is hard when what everyone is hearing is meh at best and besides all that is that the ps4 needs a "true blue exclusive" or one that is both a critically hit and a hit with consumers us the gamers which is what everyone including most of us is hoping for

happy gaming

At least Xbox has nothing too. I think Bloodborne will hit the critics well, and Souls fans but I dunno how well it can sell unless the game dupes a bunch of the new PS4 adopters into thinking it's a normal game.

My take on it is very different. Some review sites are creating a toxic environment for the fans and their fellow reviewers. There's just way too damn much click bait in their "articles", translating rumors and fanboyism into fighting arenas for the console wars.

There was the 60/1080 heatwave of moronic fanboys tossing excuses and opinions as facts. Indies were caught in the crossfire when they thanked Sony's platform and we're torn to shreds for their "stupid" games. Now we're in the multiplat phase of declaring it pointless to own the expensive system since graphical advancements aren't enough to warrant what their opinions consider minimal graphical superiority.

All while the consoles sell in a manner that defies the crying babies and questionable reviewers. I know very few gamers who put much faith in game reviews. Much like movie critics, something is bashed by the yet enjoyed by the masses. It's like the concept of reviewing these games is intended to inform the developer what they did wrong instead of what they intended to provide.

Few and far between are there legitimate websites, PSXE being one of them, that are realistic, balanced, and informative. Even fewer visitors of said websites make any valid points without whipping out a can of bullcrap for the sake of their cause.

In the end, despite everything we're observing unfold, the PS4 stays on top. That's exactly why I've cut down on contributing to comments sections and reading any news at all. I really don't care for the MS consoles, but do consider it a very good balance to the gaming world. I definitely don't think the landscape of the console world would benefit from a single system competing against its predecessors nor can I fathom a fiercer counterpart.

As far as Bloodborne is concerned, there's no way the game will fail the review sites. It's EXACTLY what they're a whining for after all. Difficult, long, and customizable. If they bash Bloodborne for being too much of the game that others weren't, then that'll force me to add them to my firewalls ban list.

The alleged fans of the gaming world are a disgrace. These are games intended to provide entertainment, yet they're all acting like they proved a religions prophet false. Must be a deprived life they lead.

The PS4 doesn't need a PR boost, because the Xbone is suffering from the same dilemma. This has just been a slow building generation so far. A well-received exclusive would help but we need more games period.

Well multiplat games is the reason both systems are selling as it is… Obviously most multiplat games have been running better on PS4 which is why it's still selling so well… Fortunately for Sony, MS has no exclusives either… But they shouldn't expect sales to keep up based on better running multiplat and need to put more effort into making more AAA Exclusives like they did last Gen… I don't see X1 getting a boost in sales until the release of Tomb Raider

Can't say I'm particularly concerned.

Souls games have sold really well even Demon Souls sold greatly for a game that Sony didn't believe in for the North American market- which is why Atlus had to publish the game here.

With Souls fans craving this game and the huge marketing boost this game has been having on all sorts of media this will be a huge sales success for sure.

From a gamer that has purchased and owns 200-plus PS1 games, 150-plus PS2 games, and 350-plus PS3 games, and at one time, a PS4, and has supported the company with thousands and thousands of dollars instead of thousands and thousands of worthless words of fanboy rhetoric, Sony needs to step the hell up. Real talk. They are going to have to really make 2016 one of their greatest years ever in terms of the stellar output I'm used to to get me to buy one instead of just buying the games for my kid and using hers.

I don't know Ben…

I have to ask "why" and "who" the PS4 needs good PR for. Sony doesn't need to impress me, nor does it seem that it needs to impress the world because people are buying the PS4 still. I guess you could say the gaming press might need to see a PR boost but, I don't see it as time to raise the alarms.
