PlayStation fans have some burning questions for Insomniac Games.
First of all, what's Ratchet & Clank going to be like on PlayStation 4? Remember, the team is rebuilding the original R&C adventure from the ground up. And what about the possibility of a Resistance sequel?
Insomniac's Drew Murray briefly addressed these topics in a recent Twitch live stream of Kinda Funny Games during this week's Game Developers Conference. In regards to R&C PS4, Murray says they're putting in "greatest hits" elements from some of the sequels that followed the original 2002 release. And yeah, as you might expect, it's gonna look pretty damn incredible on Sony's new console. He used lots of encouraging adjectives; "stunning" and "beautiful" among them.
As for a new Resistance , Murray admitted that he might have an interest in working on a new series entry. That's about all he'd fess up to, though, and they may continue to work on the recently established IP, Sunset Overdrive . Me, I want Resistance 4 more than any other shooter sequel I can think of. Just do it, Insomniac…too bad it can't be a PlayStation exclusive, though. 🙁
A few times while playing The Order 1886 I thought man this atmospheric direction would work great for a Resistance game.
Insomniac needs to come back to Sony and deliver the goods. Right now PS4 is the place to be.
interesting thought, I love the subtlety of the alternate world in that game. It establishes itself without insulting our intelligence, that's often difficult and they deserve some credit.
The 3rd was great fun. It felt like they dropped the ball on the story after the 2nd though. It had some plot hooks that were simply discarded. It was a pity because TJ Fixman did a very good job developing the R&C universes. He has since left Insomniac. At any rate, yes I would interested in a Resistance entry.
I need to play through R3 again. It's my personal fav of the series. Here's hoping for a PS4 remaster trilogy.
Sony doesn't own the IP Resistance? I know insomniac developed it, but I though the title was Sony exclusive. Like Ratchet and Clank. I could be totally wrong, just wondering.
Sony owns the IP, not Insomniac Games. Sony owns Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. That's why they were able to licence out spin-offs in those series (e.g. Resistance: Retribution/Burning Skies and Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank) to other first-party/third-party developers.
Not sure what Ben's talking about here. Resistance 4 would definitely be a PlayStation 4 exclusive if it were developed.
Yea not sure what Ben meant either but I'm pretty sure Resistance IP is owned by Sony
I need my true Resistance clooosure!!
Resistance 4 would be nice and I wouldn't be against a reboot either.
Not sure what the last line means. A new Resistance title would definitely be a PlayStation exclusive (most likely on PS4).
As much as I want Insomniac Games to develop a new Resistance, I think I'd rather them move forward and focus on Ratchet & Clank and hopefully a Sunset Overdrive 2 for PS4 and Xbox One (I doubt they'll keep a sequel exclusive since they own the IP and the PS4 is a powerhouse platform).
Maybe Insomniac Games can join together with another developer and create Resistance 4 with them? Not sure who though.
I think when teaming up with another developer, Guerilla Games would be a good developer to work with them being a good FPS developer should they go the serious/gritty route.
If they decide to make the game a bit more lax, I can see Media Molecule branching out and delivering a excellent game thats more focused than LBP.
well those were good times rachet 1,2 and 3 but a resistance would be nice for the ps4 and i'm also looking very much forward to R&C for the ps4 is gunna be so sick
happy gaming
but on a side note they did do a good job of sunsnet looks like a great game pitty its not on PC or ps4, but i'm happy for Insomniac Games anyway great job guys keep going strong
happy gaming
Resistance is my favorite FPS, I'm so glad to hear it isn't dead. I really hope they find time for it, and Sony ponies up the cash for a AAA FPS cuz Killzone isn't cutting it as a flagship series.
If they did another, I'd certainly buy it. That being said, Resistance 3 was not a good game. Had some interesting weapons and a story beat that, admittedly, left me speechless, but other than that, it was about as run-of-the-mill and vanilla asa shooter could get. Quelled any desire to sit down again with the series, though like I said, if a sequel did manifest, I'm there.
Definitely want to see another Resistance. I loved the third one and the first one just holds too much nostalgia value for me as one of the first FPS I'd ever played. Even the 2nd game wasn't bad.
Frostface from the old days, found ya! Tag, you're it. *runs away*
Insomniac should make all the Ratchet & Clank a remaster pack and release them all in one blu ray disc not only the first one!!! that's not respect for the gamers like 2k did with bordeerlands 2 and spin off and no the first one so NOT complete they milking it
I really would love Resistance 4. It needs to happen!
does anyone else think insomniac looks like idiots for jumping ship on sony THIS gen out of any? i feel like they made a real bone head decision by moving to the lesser selling system. i love their games from ps2 and 3 but Ted has his head up his butt.
Money talks…
Why would they leave one company for another while still only making exclusive games for ONE platform? Expecially since the former company has a well documented history of wonderful developer support that breeds creativity and a less stressful work environment.
Short answer:
Microsoft has WAY more funds than Sony.
I consider Insomniac more akin of mercenaries…capable soldiers for hire looking for the highest bidder.
Edit: I'd like to clarify that Insomniac has always been 3rd party, Sony was just their console of choice.

Sony should buy Insomniac… They shouldn't risk losing them to MS
From a purely above the fray viewpoint they do look foolish for these decisions and it does jam up business relations but as my freinds have said it's the money that talks and walks. It's sad though, Sunset Overdrive will die now but if it were a Sony exclusive it would get sequels and support.
that is my point though, money talks, go with the system that is selling more. obviously they didnt know it would sell like that before it came out. which sunset was obviously being worked on before system launches. but i feel they made a bad decision. that game would have gotten more attention on ps systems. im not buying a xo for that game. being my point, its not a system seller. they got one payday out of it most likely and now look bad to consumers for not bringing it to the ps system when ps customers are who made them.
Ted got his head up his ass. i dont care if you guys say it was money, it was a bad business move. i know insomniac was not doing well and i get why he did it. ps3 was a weird gen for sony. they made a lot of bad moves. but i think insomniac would be better off right now if they had stayed where they belonged.
