Another sales plateau reached.
Sony has confirmed that PlayStation 4 has cumulatively sold through over 20.2 million units worldwide as of March 1.
Since bursting onto the scene in November 2013, Sony's new console has been selling quite well. Despite a few PSN hiccups and lacking exclusive software, the system continues to hold sway in the console market. Said SCEI President and Global CEO Andrew House:
"We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation® fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play. We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver unique and interactive entertainment experiences powered by the network and the PS4 system's deep social capabilities."
Sony cited upcoming games like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain , Batman: Arkham Knight , Bloodborne , Uncharted 4: A Thief's End , No Man's Sky , Until Dawn , and Tearaway Unfolded in the press release. Yes, there are bright times ahead for the console…just give us the new Uncharted ASAP, m'kay?
Metal gear 5 this september & uncharted maybe november,YARGH!!!
Need a ps4 soonish
The PS4 is selling really well despite not having any killer app so far.
Is it too early too assume the 8th generation console race is Sony's to lose?
killer app?
define your statement.
do you mean games or actual apps that a playstation4 is not meant for (even though its capable) because i bought mine to play video games only, not watch youtube or crackle or browse the internet. theres this thing called a computer and/or tablet for "apps"
by app you mean software(game) right?
Ok……….I certainly didn't expect to get misunderstood.
Yes, I mean games, games that would make the PS4 irresistible which so far, it has none.
They actually thought you meant an app? Good grief……
Well maybe not everyone has heard the term…..
I was actually thinking about p0rn app for ps4…

@kid
Maybe Shaytoon and Fareez are from the younger generation of gamers who wasn't exposed to the term. But I admit…I literally laughed out loud at work over their comments!
General knowledge:
For anyone wondering what a "killer app" is, it was the term that was widely used when refering to AAA quality, system selling software. Basically thats what most gaming publications used before the term "I.P." took over.
I thought it was clear what he meant, but it's not unreasonable to think the mistake could be made with the variety of streaming services available among all the consoles. Certainly not enough to be tools about it.

ps4 sell 20 million but no ps4 exclusive game sell above 3 million so far…

Well not everyone loves the same game but I find it weird too.
I expected maybe 6-8 million at most.

3 million for a one console game is actually pretty solid, unless your gears/halo who have managed to brainwash the young masses
The best selling games of all time sell about 12-15% as many copies as there are systems.
For example, CoD Ghosts sold 9.5 million on xbox360. That's only about 12% of all Xbox's sold. Heck, Halo 3 sold just over 12 million. That less than 15% of all 360's.
So really, 3 million of 20 million systems, which equals 15%, is pretty darn good.
i have to agree with these guys. i know a lot of people that own consoles but only have a few games. like less then 10 games. either they dont have the money to buy a lot of games or they dont have the interest in more than the few games they have.
yeah totally those games come the systems going sky high i'm telling you theres alot of potential here lots of mean as games coming alot and unchartered will be one of the big boys for sony to hit the shelves
happy gaming

Boomshakalaka
I think the answer is obvious to "why and how" the PS4 is continuing to sell so well despite it missing critically acclaimed titles.
The PS4 is doing exactly what the other Sony consoles have done in the past by offering a game for just about everyone.
A gamer, no matter how casual or hardcore can find the right fit quite easily on the PS4, and I believe that is evident of the 20 million in sales.
I have always believed over the last several years that PSX has seen the inherent value of a Sony console, and it seems the rest of the world is finally catching on to our little secret!
