The haterade began to flow after that first gameplay trailer hit the web.
And while developer Ready at Dawn has been testy with irate gamers in previous weeks, studio founder and CTO Andrea Pessino tells Italian source Game's Princess (as cited by World's Factory ) that it's the team's fault:
"I just have to blame ourselves. In some way, it’s obvious that we’re not communicating our intentions…It may be a lack of our ability to communicate our vision.
It seems like everyone is trying to find, not a problem but rather dishonesty, it seems like we’re trying to hide something. I thought we had been very clear since the very beginning, about what we were trying to do."
Pessino went on to say their game is "rather unique and specific" and it's not just about frame rate and "a couple polygons here and there." He hopes that in the future, the studio will do a better job presenting their projects, so everyone will have a "little faith that what we're saying is true."
That's a very diplomatic way to approach things, I think. The Order: 1886 is the game everyone loves to hate right now and while I don't believe it's all Ready at Dawn's fault, there is some truth to what Pessino says.
Related Game(s): The Order: 1886
The only truth I see in his words is that they never did attach a final selling point to the game. "It's the action/horror game of the decade" "Its the TPS to beat all" "It's the most cinematic dramatic piece gaming has seen"
It lacked an identity that was spelled for 12 year old audiences. Normal folk understood the idea but as we see so commonly if you don't define yourself then somebody will do it for you.
And boy has somebody done a hatchet job on this game to hurt a PS4 exclusive.
Actually most do, especially if the devs are confident in their work. Reviews are finally out for 1886 and well like I said red flag.
Looks very mixed
There is not one single review yet for this game and its a single player only game. That is kind of a red flag for me. Game ships in 2 days of this post. May make a great rental though. Bloodborne is where I am spending my $60.
You wouldn't normally see a review 2 days before any game.
Yes Bloodborne it's the critical game that needs to be good but well on this place people seem to have a problem with difficult games, dunno why people here are so adamant to defend this game Ready at Dawn never released a AAA game before, hope they learn of this backlash and they release something good next time.
So I take it you played it oxvial? No, then would you please kindly be quiet. Their psp God of war games were better than the originals. They even made a good spin off of jak and daxter as daxter being the main protagonist. So clearly you are one of those jumping on the bandwagon like all the ign haters. I've played it and it is a good game, clearly you have not besides watching YouTube.
@Sawao
Every single article about the Order this past week features you wildly defending the hell out of this game…EVERY article. We get it…you played the game early and loved it. Doesn't give you the right to act like the lowlife bible thumping preacher that you've been acting as.
Its all speculation, so just continue having fun with the game and don't worry about what others have said. No need to be so hostile.
I'd say we are adamant to defend the game because it deserves a fricken chance to debut without people doing a hatchet job on it. It's exclusive to the platform we like and Ready At Dawn is making a console debut with new tech and a new IP. That should all be exciting, not a big downer where a promising franchise dies in it's cradle.
Thanks for not contributing anything to the comment wizard. So you guys comment on the hate and have yet to play the game. How fucking biased is that?!? I come to this website to read positivity but clearly idiotic individuals like yourself and oxvial think that because you have watched videos it makes you an expert. Since neither of you two played it, and oxvial hating it, neither of you can talk about the satisfaction of the game or not.
I agree wholeheartedly, World. I'm just saying that Sawao is going overboard with it.
Remember when Destiny first came out and I think it was Temjin kept singing its praises of the game on damn near every article Ben wrote, going against the criticism of the game? And finally Ben commented on it and said that it was getting annoying? Yeah…that applies here. Except Temjin (if it was him) wasn't being overly disrepectful while doing it.
But yeah, I myself am kind of questioning some of Ready at Dawns decisions concerning this game, but at the end of the day I'm still getting The Order.
i was actually responding to Oxvial, but yeah I'm sure you and sawao can hammer things out. We all get passionate gents.
@PS3_Wizard
That spat over Destiny between Ben was with Akuma. (not Temjin)
Thank you for the clarification, big6!
To clarify, Akuma's insanity concerning Destiny was far worse than sawao and The Order. It was every single post, and it was basically calling me an idiot for not saying Destiny would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Which, by the way, it wasn't.
kotaku reviewed the game and took a nice poop on it.
Guy that is claiming the PSP games of GoW were better than the PS2 ones just call me idiotic xD, just read some reviews of The Order it looks like it's a so so game, good graphics but nothing special got a 65 on Metacritic more lower than the 75 I thought it was going to get.
*hits blunt*
Well Sawao, I won't go as far as calling you an idiot, but after visiting metacritic and reading the good and bad reviews, it looks like you are in the minority. Its all pretty one sided to. Looks like the majority of "rumors" are true, which tells me you are either blindly loving the game in support of a first party exclusive, or you lied and also haven't played it.
And I read primarily all of the reviews from the popular sites, and a few of the random lesser known ones. All of them share a common theme on the problems the game faces, which tells me that there must be SOME level of truth to it. Now I was one of the vocal few who has repeatedly said to not base your purchase on reviews (which is why I have constantly mentioned that I'm still getting this game tomorrow), and to instead watch live gameplay via twitch or ustream to get a good idea of how it utilizes your gaming tastes.
I will offer a better account on my experience with The Order tomorrow, since I'm off and should be able to beat it in the 7 hours most reviews said it too for them to beat on normal mode. And I'd like to add that i'm happy that the rumor of it being less than 5 hours was false, and its actually closer to the 8 hour standard.
And btw, I'm not an idiot. I articulate my points WAY better than you do. I'm not some blind Sony fanboy who sticks by everything they, or their developers concoct…like you do. Sony is my system of choice, but I'd never endure trash from them or any other company.
SN:
Not saying I think the Order is/was trash, but the general concensus shows us all that it's FAR from the quality of exclusives Sony is known for.
Now Haze was trash…one of the worst exclusives in Sony history.
@Oxvial
Yeah his GOW psp comment was…odd. All of his credibility was instantly one-hit killed.
Its like someone slapped Sonic rings out of that statement.
Oxvial, I agree with sawoa. Ghost of Sparta was better than the PS2 GOW games though I don't believe you're idiocitc. 😉

You're free to read my user review of Destiny here on the site PS3_Wizard.
My early pre-release praise came from the excitement from having played the Alpha and Beta. Most people were extremely amped after playing either of them. Even a website adjusted their own logo with a Destiny emblem because of their own excitement over the game.

as for the Order. Sony should not have commissioned that team to launch a AAA ip as a prime time showcase for PS4.
Yes. Ready at Dawn has proven technically proficient but they've always made games while referencing a well laid template by a successful parent developer.
It's another Sony exclusive blunder on PS4. This became very evident when I examined portions of the playthrough the other day. I wanted to be hyped for it. Just read what I said on Ben's Week in Review. But reality set in and my objective brain took over.
I look forward to playing it because it's a visual powerhouse. I do have a vested interest in graphics rendering. But I won't pay anywhere near $60 for it.

I feel you Temjin. If wasn't getting paid as much as I do and can afford any game at anytime, I'd probably wait to buy it also.
Plus I'm just in it for the atmosphere and story and it being a new I.P.. I'm SOOO new experience starved that I'm willing to bite at anything new, even if it scored a 1/10 on reviews.
Shake it off.
This whole fiasco seems media fabricated to me. Starting with IGN. That Brian dude and the Xbox nerd with the glasses and girl hips started complaining about this game months ago. Then it seemed to snowball from there. I honestly still have no idea why people are ripping his game apart besides the length. I can understand why people wouldn't be pleased with a short campaign. Anything less than 10 hours does seem a little lame but I'm sure many, including me will play the game multiple times if it's good.
Yeah I've never seen anything like this. It's insane the type of coverage this game is getting.
Or maybe the early previews of it being a generic shooter were correct? No need to be a conspiracy theorist
Just about every game releasing this year could be considered generic shooters. All 9 PS4 games I own have "generic" shooter mechanics. Why don't you wait for the game to release before tearing it down.

I want news and yes I would think most of that news should be upbeat. I am reading about a hobby I enjoy rather than the end of the world or a political column. If I want to read angry malcontent SJW infused remarks from some adolescent demented self appointed pied piper I can go to Gaf or N4G. I need news rather than a cult leader providing directions.
This type of preconception, much originating before hands on is unfathomable from person that claim to possess a degree of objectivity. Either due to ego or some ulterior motive, the sheer hate for the game is incomprehensible. Reading several of the negative reviews it is laughable as they cannot properly support their detractions for the game.

This was never a day-one purchase for me, but I'm seriously considering buying it right away just to be a contrarian.
They should go back making handheld game, if the order was vita game it will not have all the hate and criticism that they got now…
How's that? The game isn't even out yet.
Dare I say it but this reminds me of the hate Beyond Two Souls generated. And to be honest I enjoyed that game for all its cinematic and QTE interactions. As well as some hate The Last of Us got.
All I can say is if its not your type of game, don't play it, but does not mean its a bad game especially if others do play it and like it. Just means people are bias and cannot put it aside. It can be tough.
To be honest the gaming critics, media and players, are getting too predictable and boorish. Well, present company sometimes excluded. 🙂
Keep playing!
There seems to be a lot of bandwagon hysterics nowadays..
Destiny, Evolve, Drive Club, The Order.
There doesn't seem to be much tolerance or level headedness left anymore.
If you like a game and can afford it, buy it. If it isn't your thing then skip it and move on to something else. Simple.
Bonkers…
I'm starting to feel sorry for these guys now.
It's sad, look what we done to em!
Judging from the first reviews all the sceptics seems to be right after all.
Oh well.
I say the reviews had to be tainted by the hatchet job. Look at IGN, it glows until it say that it is similar to other games that are linear. Then kaboom, somehow that's a 3 point drop.

yeah world, that IGN review is just plain weird, going by the written review and what was shown in the video review, I was expecting at least a 8+ score, and then saw it got 6.5.. Seriously??
Great story, characters, atmosphere, graphics, sound……but it has QTEs and you're not constantly shooting, so that instantly makes it a 6.5…
It's why I don't look at IGN reviews… They are idiots over there as well as sites like Kotaku and gamespot
The only thing i did nt expect the game to be is that short .They should have played The last of us more and see how you can tell a great story and still have a good amount of gameplay .
It may well be the same length with just as good of a story, we don't know. You can't pay attention to these length stories, they are never true.
Look at official reviews and you ll see they were not lies ( what people were saying about the game those past few days ) .
Here's the thing, a reviewer playthrough is always hours shorter than a gamer play through. They have to go fast and get to all the gameplay as it progresses. If they say 6-7 then it's 8-10.
Well, the early reviews for this game are saying it's incredibly boring. Not looking good. Def glad I waited on this one. I'll buy it new at some point to support the devs, but when it's $30 or less on amazon
On the flip side, at least marketing students at universities across the world have a great case study for what not to do! Keepin' it positive, folks!
How can you not be critical over this game? It's heavy on graphics, light on content. That's the way I see it. I love story and cinematics in games. But take Heavy Rain for instance: you were able to choose options that would change the storyline. TLOU had kick ass stealth gameplay plus that awesome survivor feeling. I could go on naming games with a postive cinematic AND gameplay-wise experience, but this game seems not to have it.
Man I have never seen a game get destroyed like this before it's even released. I don't watch other people play games on YouTube so I can't comment on that. But I can say if the rumors are true about the game being in the Letterbox format that is an absolute turnoff for me, and a complete head scratcher. We have bigger TV's now for a reason and for a game to compromise the full capacity of my screen because they feel that it makes it more cinematic is horse$!?%.
theres already some early reviews pooping on this game. regardless i plan on playing it for myself.
gamefly emailed me this morning stating its been shipped, so ill prolly receive it mon or tue.

Hopefully this video will cheer everyone up. As disappointed as I am with the early reviews this made me die laughing
