The latest news didn't paint The Order: 1886 in a very positive light.
What does the studio say about this? Well, nothing new, although Eurogamer cites what was said during an interview conducted last week.
That's when Ready at Dawn founder and CEO Ru Weerasuriya addressed the idea that the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive could be beaten in only a few hours:
"I know there are numbers out there. I know why the question comes up. I know numbers have been put out there that are actually not right. It's impossible to finish the game in that time, so we know the numbers are wrong.
At the end of the day, we're not going to comment on it. We can't stop people from writing the things they do. And we're not going to jump at every single mistake that is made out there. Every time somebody has the wrong impression of something we made, or somebody writes the wrong thing about what we did, it would be a full-time job to be like, oh no, that's not right. We make games. We do what we do for the players. And, ultimately, that's where I want to leave it."
All that being said, Weerasuriya does admit that the game in question won't be considered long by anyone's standard. But he says that any game needs to "deliver the experience you were hoping it would deliver when you first tackled it." This isn't dissimilar to what I just said in yesterday's editorial . The bottom line is that if the game is good and we feel content with the experience, that's all that matters.
Added Weerasuriya:
"Our industry is diverse enough that we need different games. We have to allow for different genres and single-player games like we do, multiplayer games, co-op games, social games, whatever it is."
Ready at Dawn just better hope critics don't slam the game for being too short. Sadly, that's a distinct possibility.

wasn't the 5 hours run done on youtube though?
I was under the impression that it insinuated more than 3 hours, which has been thrown around a lot.
ahh i havent heard the 3 hour rumor which would make sense for their statement, i just associated the quote with the 5 hour time
There were claims of it being a 2 to 3 hour game. He was commenting on that.
But if this 5 hour play through is accurate and the claim that the unskippable cutscenes accounted for about half of the 5 hours. Well, there is your 2 to 3 hours of gameplay. And if true, then this guy is a real dbag for his lashing out.
its as if theres someone or some company against this game, paying for all the negative feedback.
ive never seen a game butchered so much before its even released. i just hope the game ends up proving all the naysayers wrong and making them look like asses, which theyll still find something to be negative about.
I feel bad for these dudes.
It's okay, I threw my 160$ at them already. :^) So that's something I guess.
That was nice, I'm giving them $60 and I bet it's more fun than I've ever had with Uncharted.
I'm okay with it being short, just have the guts to come out and say it. And not pad your time with unskippable cutscenes.
First, this game got the generic tag, which they have done very little in the lead up to the game to disprove. Now, it's got the short tag and they've been vague with that. If I was a developer and I knew my game was substantially longer than the rumors, I'd be damned if I wouldn't throw up my own playthrough on Twitch or Youtube to counter it. Just silly that they'd run and hide and hope the hype and thirst for original content will suffice.
Personally, I've lost all interest in the game. And having just nabbed a New 3DS with MHU4, I can pass on it for now until I see it on the cheap.
Damage control time…
I just hope 1886 is around 15-20 hours long.
The game doesn't have multiplayer so after you're done with the campaign there's nothing more to do.
Well, considering this uproar… I really wouldn't go in with them expectations.
ok, so if its impossible to finish the game in that time, then why is there whole videos showing exactly that time?
gotta love how he never says what time, what he's referring to.
i swear developers are starting to sound more and more like politicians by the day!
come on, why can't developers actually be honest with their customers for a change?
don't treat us like we were born yesterday at least treat us with a modicum of respect!
obviously you don't think much of your fans, and there fore they should not be supporting you.

Not that I'm against the push for devs to be more honest, but what happens if the videos were all wrong in the first place? What happens to post like yours if (and, that's a big IF) The Order turns out to be a 10-15 hour long game after all?
how can the game be 10-15 hours long when theres videos of people playing the game from START TO FINISH and said videos are only around 5 hours long!
thats not the point though, the point is developers are constantly treating their fans like their braindead morons and its quite insulting.
not to mention there always making outlandish claims then crying wolf that the media twisted their words when people come back pissed that its not true.
maybe if they actually marketed the bottle of water as bottled water, and not super magic jesus miracle juice, then people wouldn't be knocking on their doors pitchforks and flaming torches in hand when they find out its not.
as the saying goes don't sell me a outhouse and tell me its the Taj Mahal.

You Sir, took the words right out of my mouth.
For anyone that played Ground Zeroes (I did not):
The claims were that it was a 2 hour game. How long did most of you spend with it?
And how much was GZ when it first released?
It was $30…a fitting price seeing as it was basically a demo to get you ready for the new MGS.
I beat it in about 3 and a half hours while taking my time. Wasn't upset at the length since I knew what the game was trying to accomplish PLUS it wasn't the usual $60 price.
And thats where the problem with The Order lies.

So you're willing to spend $30 on a 3.5 hour game? What about a 7 hour game?
You spent 75% more time on a reportedly 2 hour game. If ratios are maintained, you'd spend 8.75 hours on a reportedly 5 hour game. 😉
The biggest difference for me is the fact that no one really knows what the length is yet. If you're worried about it, wait… what…. 2 days to find out the general consensus? That seems to me to be the most logical reaction to all of this.

Hahaha good one as someone that hated the length of GZ and saw the people that bought and defend the length of that game now ranting on the Order it's hilarious xD
My point is that GZ's primary purpose was sort of an appetizer to the main course that will be the new one. I knew full well after doing initial research on the game what I was getting myself into.
The Order could have been a bit longer in the grand scheme of things. Atleast closer to the industry standard of around 8 hours.
Edit: This comment was meant for Underdog. Thought I hit the reply button…

My point isn't about that. My point is that you don't know how long it truly is. GZ is a great indicator of that. (Your 3.5 hours to a reportedly under 2 hour game)
Saying it "could have been a bit longer in the grand scheme of things" is summing up something you don't know. As I said, if you spend 75% longer on The Order like you did on GZ, you're looking at a 8.75 hour production… assuming it is truly a 5 hour game.
What about saying the truth? the guy just don't want to admit the game isn't even 6 hours and just rant on the 3 hour accusations lol.

yeah thats a sad possiblity that i could score low just for "being short" which i thinks is kinda pathetic cos MGS ground zeros was scored fairly and that was super short. seems like a double standard to me not to mention that people are saying that the game is 3, 5, 7 or 8 hours who knows how long it is i think it'll be fine im optimistic cos everyone seems to be acting like stupid idiots if i'm honest and i'mnot entirely sure why i can thing of a couple things but not the whole picture
hmmm….. don't rally know whats going on
happy gaing
