Many thought they would reveal a new JRPG but as it turns out, it's Minna de Spelunker Z (aka "Everyone's Spelunker Z").
It was revealed during a livestream from the Takaigi: Japan Game Party at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, and noted by DualShockers . It's a new installment in the classic franchise that began with the original Spelunker 32 years ago (yes, that long). It's being developed by Spelunker HD studio Tozai Games and will launch in Japan on March 19. It's a free-to-play downloadable effort that will support up to six players online.
The game will also boast charcter customization and a "wide variety of pets," while the F2P model will involve the purchase of premium items. Not that I think it'll be a bad game but really, Square Enix needs to stop issuing dramatic countdown teasers for projects like this.

I wouldn't say he likes crap games Per Se but I will never understand the boners he gets for games like DmC and Dante's Inferno.
I have a few guilty pleasures myself. But I don't want them hyped as potential AAA productions.

Did I not predict this? … This is why I cannot get excited for mystery projects anymore. I can't rely on the competence of the production value just on name alone.

This isn't a crap reveal, it looks like lots of fun, but it certainly wasn't as big as I had hoped 🙂

I loved the original Spelunker back in the 80's, and the HD remake a few years ago was fun as well. But this just doesn't look that great to me at all. Being F2P is just the final nail in the coffin for me. Spelunky is still the superior game in this genre hands down.

I have a doubt: If mobile and portable games are so higher in japanese market nowadays, why we don't have games for Vita? That's one of the excuses of japanese developers. They say that portable and mobile games are the priority because japaneses don't play games in console anymore.
