I don't care what anyone says; both franchises have always been great and they were very important during the previous generation.
Resistance: Fall of Man was the only launch title that made the PlayStation 3 worthwhile and it kicked off a brand new franchise, which I will always believe never got enough love and respect from gamers.
Killzone may have began during the PS2 generation but let's face it: Things didn't really get rolling until Killzone 2 on the PS3. One of the first shooters I've ever played where I said, "damn, this actually feels different ," it was very refreshing and beautifully produced. I also don't hold with the idea that Resistance and Killzone went steeply downhill after the games in question; that's not true at all .
But anyway, if you had to pick, which would you rather have: A brand new Resistance or Killzone ? Which do you think would generate the most excitement for PlayStation 4? Which would sell the best? Which would have the best chance of pushing the genre forward again? Me, I'd be good with another Wolfenstein (last year's The New Order was just the ticket in a land dominated by multiplayer, IMO) but I'm probably in the minority.
What say you?
I'm bored of Killzone. It's whole look and style and vibe is just tired on me. I'd rather see another Resistance. I really liked R3. I'd really like to see Insomniac do another.
I say more resistance less insomniac
Believe me when I say Resistance was the last and only FPS game that I played online and LOVED IT.
I had around 32K kills in R1, 21K in R2 and R3 respectively. Those were some lovely times for sure. I think if they would have maintained the artistic and graphical style of R1, the franchise could have done better.
To answer the question, Resistance is what Playstation needs.
PS4 needs a Halo killer and after multiple tries neither Killzone or Resistance have been able to do that. I say move on and try something new. Those two feel old and lacklustre.
Nohing can kill Halo, it's just too stupid to beat.
No World. Remember Destiny is out now. That's the halo killer.
Remember when Haze was supposed to be the Halo killer?!
Oh that sweet nectar.
lol @ Destiny
Duke Nukem 2026 Eat This…and Like It
Coming soon to PS7 and Xbox Doh!
nice one FatherSun.
(wishes I would've thought of that)
Resistance 1 & 3 were awesome.
KZ has always seemed a little dull to me.
I would love more Resistance.
Resistance hands down.
My favorite franchise from last gen.
I want more resistance game, I don't care reboot or sequel, I like the setting and story in resistance. The only good Killzone game I played is Killzone 2…
Let's face it, they haven't both always been great. We need more Resistance though, and oomph behind it. Killzone was never a real flagship series with its bad stories and characters. Insomniac never made Resistance into what it needed to be. Sony needs to take it internal and let GG move on with this new thingamagig.
I loved KZ2, and thought KZ3 was pretty bad. They tried to make it too much like call of duty. I haven't played enough of shadowfall, only the MP beta, but it felt alright.
I think KZ needs to go back to its mega weighty feel it had in KZ2 so that it stands out and is at least unique to get its own following. Right now it doesn't have an identity, it tries to copy CoD but doesn't do it well enough, its a weird mish mash of things.
Resistance 1 2 and 3 were all amazing in my opinion. I think R1 was the strongest of the series, I liked the art style and the weapon balance, I liked the single player and loved the MP.
R2 was super fun to grind out in Co op with a group of friends, and its multiplayer while fun was a little less focused than R1s.
R3 had a great story but I didn't like the MP as much.
They need to do the weighty controls like TLoU. They're good and weighty until you upgrade yourself by taking pills then you become inhumanly precise.
If you want to keep the weighty then you just have your pills do something else to you.
=p
KZ Shadow fall has probably the best most refined mp. But there's nothing wrong with KZ2 in that regard either. As far as sp goes KZ2 is tops.

I'll have to check out KZ shadowfall sometime for the MP when I get the chance. The beta was pretty fun, but it didn't feel weighty like KZ2 did in its beginning.
In fact Gorilla caved and patched KZ2s multiplayer so it was less weighty and I enjoyed it far less after this. Still a great game though, I really liked how the game modes constantly changed during the map, that was very original and games don't really do that much right now.
You are 100% correct in regards to KZ2. Just wasn't he same. KZ Shadow fall had a nice balance but it certainly wasn't like KZ2 originally.
Definitely Resistance and gimme R2 type co-op mode.
The Co op was the best thing about that game. Man I'd like to play some of that again!
I'd take a true throwback Resistance for sure. But both have kind of gone off the rocker and if I had to pick purely based on where the series are headed it would be KZ. R3 was good but R2 has me scratching my head.
Killzone needs to go back to what made 2 great. Heavy gun play, gritty colorful graphics, awesome visual and sound effects. Shadow Fall completely dropped the ball.
Neither interest me in all honesty. I loved Resistance: Fall of Man, it was a polished game, R2 was certainly decent but R3… I know it got decent reviews and all but the game seriously let me down. The level design was uninspiring, the story and new lead character were weak and the game was very clunky and buggy. It was so bad that it brought the series down from AAA catagory in my view and then they released that lousy Vita game and that finished it.
Resistance of course.
Time to bring it back, we had enough of KZ and GG has failed to maintain the standard KZ2 had.
Of the two it's easy: Resistance. No doubt.
But what I *really* want is a new IP that will kick off the PS4 like Resistance kicked off the PS3. That's what it need.
yeah i spose
That's Order 1886, Beam. Get your pre-order in now on PSN and you'll get a free soundtrack, an extra weapon (or something), and a dynamic theme.
We shall see, Temmy. I'm not convinced.
None of these two.
Remember a game called "Black" on PS2?
That would be a killer. Loved the deestruction.
Hell yeah
we already had a Killzone game on the ps4 so I'll go with Resistance. ^_^
Neither. New IPs or GTFO
I think anyone who has any inkling of me knows what I'm going to say… Resistance.
I thought that the series was massively underrated, and the third is undoubtedly one of the most atmospheric FPS games that I have yet played. Fantastic design ethos, a fascinating lore, gameplay that masterfully blended the old with the new… Yet the series was met with declining sales, and Sony effectively threw away the promise of the series by farming out Burning Skies to Nihilistic, a developer with a rather abysmal track record.
Although I'd rather a new IP, the Resistance franchise has always been rife with creativity and potential, and it will be a sad thing if Killzone carries on, but Resistance doesn't.
I like both, but I would rather have Resistance 4 than another Killzone.
Since we already got a PS4 Killzone and it wasn't too great, I'd prefer a new Resistance.
Out of those 2 would say Resistance over Killzone, but would rather see a whole new Timesplitters. Loved that game.
TimeSplitters? You mean a TimeSplitters like Future Perfect with: various different locations and atmospheric touches, four player split-screen (with optional bots and other mods) and online mp, a fairly large and diverse number of modes, as well as a large number and variety of weapons and characters to choose from with their own unique stats (like speed, weaknesses, etc.) and different shapes and sizes. Yes please!!! =-D
If I HAD to pick between them both I would go with Resistance. I had fun with Resistance 2 online. I would much rather they make a new FPS title though.
KZ2 is probably my favorite FPS of all Time. Shadowfall's campaign couldn't convince me to finish it, but the Multi-player is REALLY good. The Multi-player on 2,3, and Shadowfall were all really good (2 and Shadowfall being the best). KZ would do good to have better story telling in the campaign and keep the multi-player as good as always.
Also, as gimmicky as it may have been KZ3 in 3D was fun for me. I enjoy 3D though. AC3 in 3D was awesome too, especially the underground caverns.
Both were great, but I'd go for KZ over Resistance. That said, if we're talking a new edition of a Sony shooter franchise, my #1 pick would be SOCOM and my #2 would be MAG ;). #2 will never happen anytime near Planetside 2, but I'm hoping #1 is a chance.
Resistance Resistance Resistance.
(resistance)
Killzone only had one good game in KZ2,Resistance got better but unfortunately didn't get rewarded for it. Resistance 3 was a fantastic game and I'd love to see a new addition for the current gen.
Resistance for sure needs a new entry, I loved R1, that was my favorite ps3 game. For R2 i was super excited but kind of let down when it came out. R3 was decent, the multiplayer was better than R2's in my opinion. I have my doubts they will make another though since R3 did not sell well…
I say Resistance needs a new AAA release. I also wouldn't mind a remaster of the first entry as well as the Retribution and Burning skies. Would be nice to bring the latters to console since I never picked up any of the portables.
Resistance all day. It's criminal how it didn't get the Halo recognition it deserved.
no i think the new order was a good step in the right direction for the FPS genre. and i think maybe resistance could makea come back since we've had kz:sf for the launch of the ps4 and another KZ game could come a little later i think. would you agree???, could we have both kz again later on and a resistance resugance for the ps4
happy gaming
I absolutely love both franchises, and if I had to choose one over the other I would go with Resistance. That said, I believe I heard or read that Insomniac was leaving Resistance behind permanently, probably because of the lack of love and respect. We players loved it, but it always got compared to Gears of War, which is a different type of game IMHO. I love the feel of KillZone, too, though. But I think KillZone: Shadow Fall was not the best of the franchise; it did some interesting things, but personally I can't do multiplayer for more that a few minutes. It's too complicated compared to KZ 3. I wouldn't mind another follow up, mind you, but they need to go back to basics I think.
