Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor turned out to be a great game.
But it went through quite the metamorphosis during the lengthy and difficulty development process.
This according to what Monolith Productions boss Michael de Plater told Gamasutra in a recent interview. The bottom line is the team's original vision was actually much more ambitious than the final product. Said de Plater:
"During pre-production, we didn't have good metrics on our production capacity. This led to the specification of the game being over-ambitious, which, as we started to get a clearer picture of reality, required us to make some pretty big and painful cuts."
He added that this generated a "double dip of pain," as they lost work on the features they cut, and they also needed more work to replace the cut content. Of course, fans are wondering if the eliminated content might find its way into a Shadow of Mordor sequel, but Monolith doesn't have a definitive answer just yet. de Plater does say they've "just scratched the surface," though, so…
What would you like to see in a sequel?

Actually I'd rather see the cool combat and stuff in a Middle Earth game based on one of Tolkien's stories that has all the colorful hotspots, the Shire, Rivendell, Gondor, Barrow Downs, Lothlorien, Tom Bombadil's house. We need an epic adventure now that the movies are all done.
What world said.
What world said mostly.
I think there are so many colourful places in Middle Earth they should take the gameplay from Shadows, and put it into a game that spans all over middle earth. Whether that means making it more or less open world I don't know.
I think it would be much cooler if certain nemesis you create hunted you across middle earth, and even recruited like small armies to mess you up.
They could do so much with the sequel, I'm excited to see where they go with it. This was my Game of the Year 2014.
Played it on the PS4 for 10 hours then traded it in. Kept getting swamped by 100 orcs and or bored with the sneaking bits. Loved the nemesis mechanic though. Something that needs to be in a lot more games.
yeah me too, only I sold it on ebay. Others swear by it, but I mostly saw lots of promise and little follow through.
i guess you figure out your own limitations some how
