A new year, a new developer has taken the NASCAR reins.
Newly announced studio DMi Games has confirmed they're working on a new NASCAR video game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
They acquired the license as of January 1; the previous owner was Eutechnyx, which produced last year's NASCAR 2014 . We don't have too many details on the new project just yet, but DMi Games president Ed Martin says:
"Just to give you some context, a contemporary NASCAR video game has more than 1,000 licensed and approved properties in it. That’s a lot of stakeholders and people to get organized!"
Martin is a long time NASCAR veteran; he's been working on these games since the early '90s, so this team should know what they're doing. And yes, of course it's gunning to be a simulator. Right now, the title is tentatively expected to release in 2016.
All you NASCAR fans excited to see what the new studio has in store?
As much of a disaster NASCAR 14 was, it was still one of my favorite games. If you could find the right difficulty for the track, and if the game didn't freeze or glitch out in one way or another, it was a very fun and intense race.
I'm hoping this new developer will stick with the simulation style as opposed to arcade style NASCAR. If they can keep he general feel of 14, but improve the many bugs and glitches and features, it could be one of the best NASCAR games to date.
Here's hoping they take their time, do things right and listen to the community!
