Sometimes, we miss out on great games simply because they didn't exactly resonate with critics.
Thus far, what do you think is the most underrated title on PlayStation 4?
I suppose we could go all the way back to the launch game, Killzone: Shadow Fall . Many claim the game didn't receive very high scores just because the hype and anticipation were out of control, and everyone was expecting the next level in first-person shooters. That didn't really happen but Shadow Fall is hardly a bad game. In fact, one could argue it was a pretty great game.
Then there was inFamous: Second Son , which a lot of franchise fans really enjoyed (I had a blast with it, certainly) and many say it received unfair flak for a somewhat unlikable hero and a more streamlined (simplified?) gameplay mechanic. And even though it isn't a PS4 exclusive, a lot of people will say Destiny didn't receive the critical love it should've, and that it's undoubtedly one of the best multiplayer shooters in existence.
Lastly, we could toss Driveclub into the mix. It suffered through a terribly unstable launch and it's unfortunate, because gamers will likely remember that for some time. Once everything is ironed out, though, and once developer Evolution Studios delivers more content, it should end up being one of the most entertaining racing experiences out there.
Which game gets your vote?
None. I have yet to find an underrated game.
There is no shortage of overrated PS4 games though. Most have been a disapointment so far. Lots of hype, most didn't deliver.
Guilty Gear Xrd, love how the reviewer of IGN used the excuse of the format in the menu and the organized network options to not let the game score a 9 xD

Although it scored pretty high and was well received, I think Advanced Warfare's metacritic of 83 on PS4 could be bumped up to a 90.
I don't think there's many underrated games right now, maybe a few indies, but I haven't gotten much into the ones on PS4 yet.
Child of light. It got good scores, but no one really talks about it. I realize it isn't an exclusive.
Ummm…knack? Anyone play it? is it underrated?
yes underrared!
Bound By Flame
Knack, the most amazing game ever…
Lol
I tried Knack on a store kiosk back when it was new. It felt like the ratings it got to me.

Destiny. Greatest FPS ever.
you need to try and justify such a bold statement. This way we can argue with you until you change your mind.
The PSXe community is the great distillery of false beliefs.

I am going to agree with you that Destiny is the most underrated game of 2014.
The "greatest" though? That is a topic that will result in 100's of opinions and an end that is nowhere in sight.

The Multiplayer in Killzone Shadowfall is definitely underrated. It's still probably the best, most balanced, and most addicting MP I've played. They just did a great job on it all around.
Watch_Dogs. It was far too hype to be this generations first big step, admittedly it failed to reach that leap. But the game is still fantastic. The combat is some of the most well executed I have experience within a game. I love using the silenced pistol and sneaking around clipping headshots or using the cTos software to hack into the environment and plant traps and cause mischief – it was really unique and well done.
As for the story, I wouldn't deem it as particularly memorable but it was still interesting. Aiden wasn't the caricature seen in GTA but his reserved nature was suited to his back story and I appreciated it. Overall I really enjoyed the game and if you have been put off by the disappointed press Id go with your gut feeling and try it like I did.
i actually would say shadow fall.
it improved and expanded on everything the series is known for, and it managed to do one thing even year 1 games struggle with!
so many games released last year just felt so rushed, half finished.
what was really impressive with shadow fall was not only that it made all the changes people wanted, but it implemented those so well and it was a launch title!
not one game last year managed to get half of what they should of, as a year one title not a launch title!
knack would be another one for the same reasons.
its the closest game I've played to a old school platformer it just feels so right!
you can tell that mark had his hand on it, and it truly does feel like a spiritual successor to crash.
really hope he does come back to designing a lot more games like he says he wants to, hell make him a permanent staff member of japan studio!
we probably never will see a new crash game, but that does not mean the essence of it has to die.
hell $ony wants to break into the kart racing scene so badly, pop mark and the japan team on the spiritual successor of crash team racing and watch the industry say mario who!?
id add watch dogs to the list too.
yea it was ridiculously overhyped, and yes the final game does not look half as good as the reveal trailer, but it is nice to see a game so up with the times.
GTA has always held up a mirror to society and said are you happy with yourself, but its starting to feel old and stale its still holding up that mirror but it feels like that mirror was from 10 years ago.
watch dogs feels bang up to date!
your seen committing a crime people call the police, you knock the phone out of their hand problem solved.
not you commit a crime and magically a signal gets sent by hocus pocus to police and they know exactly where you are even if your nowhere near where the crime was committed.
watch dogs just feels so much more in-depth, so much more thought out and reason behind it not just its that way because i say so.
story wasn't bad either, actually care about the characters for a change and one of the few games towards the end where i was genuinely interested in what happens next.
especially getting to the bunker your like ooh this is where CTOS was designed, you have that intrigue, that interest and want to play on.
goes to show how important back story is and its a real shame no one really pays any attention to things like this.
it really does make the difference from meh its late might as well go to bed, to no way i need to find out what happens just one more mission!
watch dogs is the perfect example of whats wrong with this generation.
99% of games feel right, they feel like everything is where it should be, but its never in-depth enough as it should be.
theres not a single thing in watch dogs that shouldn't be there, but nothing is half as fleshed out as it should be.
CTOS for instance everyone was expecting some amazing city controlling tool, but 99% of the time all it is just cameras to spy on people.
really?
security cameras?
thats the whole big grand next gen mechanic your basing your whole entire game on?
talk about a flimsy pillar!!!!!!!!

I think I'd say The Evil Within. I love the challenge and the suspense element of the game. If they do make a sequel I'll definitely buy it. ^_^
2 things – Knack really wasn't anywhere near as bad as people say. I didn't mind it and my kids loved it.
Also, Driveclub is fantastic now !
I haven't played the other games mentioned on the article, but Driveclub is definitely worthy of players' time. I am not huge on racing games but Driveclub was a lot of fun to play. It nailed the simcade game that it was meant to be. And boy, let's not even talk about the graphics. Easily one of the year's very best.
It's a shame that the game launched to a lot of online issues that led to low review scores but it really is a great racing game and it is much much better now with all the post-launch DLC and updates.
Driveclub. It's unfortunate the dynamic weather wasn't in at launch, and the technical difficulties it had at launch, I feel both unfortunately affected it's review scores and lasting impressions. Bought the game and it's really impressive.

I want to say AC Unity and Drive Club.
but…
Drive Club is a weird bag. Thing is, it didn't get rated low for it's online problems. Those issues didn't really manifest themselves until after the game launched. The game rated lower on it's game merits alone, but I felt the scores were justified for reason of the bad online implementation. I just don't agree with a lot of the justification critics used for their score. Ultimately, score browsers, when shopping for a game, probably saw the score the game deserved once the crappy online was taken in consideration.
AC Unity got nailed for horrible bugs. While it was harsh, I think it was ultimately for the best. Ubisoft should hold their quality to a higher standard and their customers should expect something more finished. The same goes for the Crew. This was a hard lesson learned for Ubisoft, but it was an important one so I don't disagree with it's aggregate rating.
EDIT: I also think Dragon Age needed to be hit a bit harder for it's numerous bugs.

Driveclub, AC: Unity or Alien:Isolation
Those last two I have practically lived in these last few weeks. Both have an attention to detail that is a joy to behold. AC: Unity impliments so many next generation systems at the same time, with so much to do that is actually entertaining, it's unreal.
Interesting how bugs are becoming the bugbear of this generation, when they were slightly more tolerated last gen (fallout 3, skyrim). It seems with more complex simulations, we expect fewer errors. No pressure then!
AC: Unity. The internet had me believing I bought a lemon, but none of the problems I encountered were even close to the horror stories I was reading about it. Some people may have had severe issues with it. I wouldn't dare call them a liar just because my playthrough was kind of smooth, but I think the criticism was a little harsh.
Maybe not the most popular opinion, but I am going to say The Swapper.
I haven't heard much from anyone about it, and it's a relatively short game, but it's also a downloadable title so there's that.
It's a great little metroidesque game with an intriguing little story. It's sort of shallow, and easy to complete, but I think it deserves more attention than it's getting.
It's also free for PSPlus, so grab it while you can.
The Swapper is a great little game, and visually simple but effective. But I thought it was quite frustrating at times! I'm prolly not as good as you in solving these kind of puzzles. 🙂
I'd definitely say between Driveclub and Watch Dogs. DC had a terrible launch, especially noting that it not only affected those who purchased the game but those who were anticipating the ps plus edition. But the overall game was great in my opinion.
With Watch Dogs how do i start. I still play that game up to this day. I truly feel if most gave it a chance, theyd be surprise at how good it is. The multiplayer is what grabs me and like Ben, i usual abhor multiplayer modes I tried it way post launch and got addicted to it. Hacking and getting hacked by other playere is awesome. Theres a lot of fun to be had in this open world action game. As someone saidearlier the movement is particularly aweeome. I feel ninja like while using stealth to take down enemies. There are a few gripes. The story while interesting isnt totally engrossing. Aiden like Franklin from GTA plays second fiddle compared to the supporting cast. The voice acting on his part wasnt great. He talks raspy when in his vigalante alter ego but there were times where he started talking normal right in the middleof thr conversation!!!
infamous second son felt premium
i think i would be one of the earlier games that you mentioned driveclub was just plane dissapointing and i finished the main tour alot of the other games were not bad games but treated to harshly
happy gaming
