Lords Of The Fallen Producer Addresses Dark Souls Comparisons

When CI Games and Deck 13 delivered Lords of the Fallen , gamers couldn't help but notice similarities to the acclaimed Dark Souls franchise.

Well, here's the developer's take on that.

In a recent Game Informer interview with Lords of the Fallen executive producer Tomasz Gop, he addresses the comparisons in question:

"If someone tells you, 'This place feels like your parents' house,' you can't tell them it's not true, even if you don't feel that way at all. Or like what the Oracle told Neo in The Matrix–it's like being in love. Uhm… I guess, what I mean is, no matter how much we see Lords as a game of its own, if someone says it feels 'totally like Souls' to him/her, I can only acknowledge that."

Gop added that it doesn't matter if the comparisons occur; what matters is whether or not people think the different things in Lords of the Fallen automatically make it an "inferior" game to Dark Souls . "Hope not," Gop finishes.

Well, the art style and gameplay is indeed similar but after doing our review (linked above), we have to conclude that there are distinct differences. Wouldn't you agree?

I really like Lords. It definitely has its own identity, despite taking some inspirations from the Souls series.

His answer makes sense but also feels a little like a cop out. The game is pretty damn good, but come on now, it's pretty Souls-like. Not that that's a bad thing, but he can't honestly say he doesn't see the similarities or that they didn't take "inspiration" from Souls. Again, not a bad thing at all, I like both games a great deal, and I probably like Lords as much as I do because it takes inspiration from Souls while changing enough to feel fresh.

Its a fantasy setting action RPG with a stamina bar that is almost identical to what is used in the Souls games and only the Souls games have used something like this recently so it is totally fair that people make comparisons.

Also the way that checkpoints and collecting your dead body works, very Souls like.

I haven't played it but watching gameplay videos it is hard not to see the huge inspiration but I wouldn't say it is a bad thing.

Shadows of Mordor is like Assassins creed and Batman mixed into one glorious game and I love it.

Darksiders 1 was very much like a mash of Zelda and God of war and it is one of my favourite games on the PS3.

I just wish this guy would admit that there is a lot similar lol.
