Evolution Thanks Driveclub Fans For Their Feedback And Support

It was a rough start for Driveclub but the developers want to thank everyone for being so patient and supportive.

Evolution Studios thanked their fans for the "truly overwhelming" support shown over the past few months; there's a big ol' Thank You posted at the studio's Facebook page .

"Everyone here at Evolution Studios wants to say thank you for the truly overwhelming level of support from you this year, especially in the time since DRIVECLUB launched in October. Your messages, your feedback, your hot lap videos on YouTube and all of the absolutely amazing screenshots you’ve shared have all been a huge source of inspiration for the team.

You’ve all been amazing and we’re extremely thankful for your continued support."

Evolution says they've got "many more updates" in the works and they'll continue to support the increasingly entertaining racer into and through 2015. They also released a new trailer outlining all the free updates they've produced thus far. It's too bad Driveclub launched with those problems but at least Evolution is working hard to iron things out.

While it's a popular target for bashing, Drive Club keeps getting better and better. If it were to release today, as it is now, I'd have no problem rating it an 8.
It's a great arcade racer with incredibly prestine and detailed graphics. Those new weather effects are just off the hook cool.
I think rain and storms can become a really big part of some other future games. Sure, we've always seen rain in games. But not anywhere as cool as it is in Drive Club.

I now want me some Motorstorm! Motorstorm with rain and mud and awesomeness.

EDIT: It's also a fairly hardcore racer in difficulty. Some of these event challenges are really hard to nail. It makes you really master your vehicle and the track. This game is better than it's rep. I know everyone is all pissed over it's marketing but the game under the marketing and online connectivity mess is well worth enjoying!

How does the social/online aspect work? I mean gameplay wise as far as playing with friends?

There's a lot to it bigrailer. More than I've even tried. I spend most my time in single player stuff. But that's not to say I haven't done this online.

The Home menu presents you with:
Drive
Challenges
Create Club and Browse Clubs
then there's the other stuff like Garage and settings, profile etc.

Being part of a club isn't required but it socially makes the game more engaging if you want that sort of interaction. Your club can progress in rank and you can send each other custom challenges and you can compete for best scores and times. I've spent little time here.

Within Drive from the Home menu there's Tour, Single Event, and Multiplayer. Multiplayer presents you with a buffet style offering of race events. Each event offering has a timer counting down before it expires. Once you find a prefered event you just join and the game does the rest to bring you to the track with strangers. This is good for anyone who wants competition but doesn't want to become too attached. Problem here is that you can race against the scum of the earth. Guys who have nothing better to do than to ruin races by slamming you off the track or acting like idiots. I imagine in clubs this sort of things gets filtered out.

I remember Gametrailers had a fairly detailed review that was free of too much opinion and subjectivity. Drive Club expects a lot from you so it's not for the casual if you're wanting to complete tours with full points. Some of the challenges are really hard. Hard because the game expects you to race really well. The tracks do test you with all kinds of intelligent design dynamics that makes you really have to understand the way your car behaves under varying gravity and the road you're on. Expect to have to race a track over and over with a car at the later events. I've made it as far as the Hypercar events. There's also two free tour DLC packs that adds new cars and some track alternates with new events and trophies etc. The new cars aren't lame either.

Then there's the graphics. The sort of shaders and dynamic lighting model here is second to none. The frame rate is rock freaking solid. True it's 30fps. But it's unwavering.

If you want a racer that isn't about free roaming or driving your sports car through wheat fields, or like the idea of a game that expects you to try hard without a bunch of assists, this is it. This is next-gen arcade racing.

EDIT: btw, they have been consistently making good patches. They're working on AI patch right now.

Cool thanks. I was wondering how the mp worked. I mean as far as getting on and racing around with friends. Sounds like your club is just that not something you do with friends but build up rank by competing against others. Sounds like it's more competition based than cruising with friends and racing other clubs together.

I will say the grippy nature of the cars can take some time to get used to. I think a part of this is because of how conditioned we've become in expecting arcade racers to be really skiddish-slippery. And drifting here does take a lot of skill to do well effectively. But sure enough, like anything, with enough practice, it becomes easier, and you may even prefer and enjoy the sort of finesse and skill needed to pull off good drifts.

dude. don't trade it for the Crew. If you're gonna trade it, fine, just not for the Crew. Hold out for Project Cars or something.
