Final Fantasy has always had a character named Cid.
Well, almost always, and he's typically in the main franchise installments. He ranges from a minor to a relatively major character (he was an awesome playable character in FFVII, for instance) and yes, he – or rather she – is back in Final Fantasy XV .
For the first time, the character of Cid will be portrayed by a female, as evidenced by this new Jump Festa 2015 trailer. Her name is actually Cidney and although she isn't integral to the game's story, she will likely assist you in fixing and upgrading the car you see so often in gameplay videos. She's a mechanic, which makes sense, as Cid was always technically and mechanically gifted.
The trailer shows off a few other cool elements as well. But here's the thing: Cid shouldn't be a girl. Iconic characters, no matter how minor, should remain iconic. For the same reason no Tomb Raider should ever sport a dude named Larry, no FF should have a mechanic named Cidney. Just leave these characters alone .
Related Game(s): Final Fantasy XV
I don't know. I don't think I have any problems with having a female version of cid. In the game it seems she's a mechanic for automobiles, not airships. Yes mechanics are mechanics but they have their specialty.
Actually tomb raider does have a dude version. His name is Nathan Drake….
Jokes jokes please don't flame me.
There is also a trailer with a dog btw. Just a tour of a city in progress. Another is a more in depth look at cidney. Cleavage everywhere. It seems to be a must in female character design lol.

Well, it is a good thing no one will play FF XV, then.
HA.
Nice looking cutscenes. I just doubt the game design and it's play. When a company hasn't been able to get it right for about a decade it's hard to place a lot of faith in them.

Biggs and Wedge
Bigget and Widge
Seriously why? Just make a new female character. Nothing wrong with having Cid's wife or daughter. New iconic character. Ya'know?
Yeah, exactly. They already did it, too; I think Rikku was Cid's daughter in FFX.
Yeah she was. And Yuna was his niece.
Similarly it still pisses me off when they cast a woman as Peter Pan in modern day performances.
At least the new Cid or Cidney is easy on the eyes.
So umm, that other FF game is Mature rated. What else weird is FF up to?
They cast peter pan as a woman because a male lead would have too low of a voice to sing the part.
Peter Pan has almost always been played by a woman in theater performances.
and it's almost always bothered me. I heard the reason for it is because during the original performance they couldn't find a male actor to perform the role so they used a woman as a stand-in. Now it's become something of weird tradition.
If this is true I'm sorry, but if I was the author of a story who's main character was a GUY I would want the actor to be a guy. I don't think I'd care for some bizarre tradition to use a woman founded on a stage production inadequacy.

Peter Pan was a play before it was a novel and the actress was cast as Peter Pan I have never heard of her being a stand in. Her father was also a very famous playwright himself as well as manager at the time.
I also just did some googling and the true reason for it seems to be that there was a Law in England that children under the age of 14 were prohibited from performing after 9PM. So of course with puberty and all it was hard to find a boy who could perform well and still look young and not be taller than the other performers so they searched for a woman who could still be short and look like a young boy while still performing and sounding the part.
The playwright was fully involved in the entire process. It was very common for women to play the parts of younger men and boys due to this law. So there was nothing strange about it at all and there was no reason for the playwright to have any issue with his male lead character being portrayed by a woman.

The playwright J.M. Barrie did later try to get an American version of the play performed with a male lead, America had no issue with child labor as most of us know, but nothing ever came of it.
Nice. That'll learn me.
Times, they are a-changin'.
We have a Latino Spiderman, a female Thor, female Captain Marvel, a very good chance of a black James Bond, and now female Cid.
And its fine. It's great. I don't think gender is what made Cid a great character in the FF franchise to begin with. Did he fix rockets with his genitals? No. So it's ok if Cid is a woman.
lol! This post is full of awesome.
I like female Cid, heck she looks better than the main cast.
Let her be in the party from the beginning and I might consider this game. This game has a lot to prove and so far I'm not sure I can stand 4 guys driving around. Needs a lot more variety to create a strong storyline. I always liked IX's characters because of their huge diversity. X and VIII were the same way as well.
Sorry, giving Cid a hot daughter named Cidney would have made a lot more sense. Just my opinion.
The graphics are looking far more polished now, that is the take away for this trailer for me. I remember when they first announced it as XV and for the ps4 the textures looked really weak in the gameplay but after watching this today Im impressed!
As for Cid being a lady… I have absolutely no problem with that at all, in IX Cid was an Oglop 😛 Also Noctus' voice was not nearly as bad as the trailer they redubbed the other day so this trailer settles a lot of doubts. s-E are really buckling down with this now and I can't wait to finally get my hands on it as if still looks utterly superb!

Cool, Cid in FFT is a godlike character with all the sword knights powers in one. Probably the most powerful a Cid will ever be.
TG Cid Orlandu.
Oh well. Most characters in this franchise looks like girls anyway, so this gender reassignment is practically just a formality.
:p
Hee hee. 😉
Cidney is okay by me since cid is always a different person and that game NEEDS women!
haha very true.
FFXV: BL
I honestly don't particularly care. The tomb raider example doesn't really fit since Lara's always technically the same character, cid is always different. Besides, this game has a bit of an excess in y chromosomes as it is.
I might have missed the memo where they mentioned that the game was no longer exclusive, but I couldn't help but notice the Xbone logo at the end…
Also, 'Cidney' is fine, as long as, at some point, she's just called 'Cid'. Otherwise, it doesn't count.
Well I'll be damned. They actually did it.
Doesn't bother me. Just imagine Cid is her grandfather or something. lol
Of all the things to whinge about…
The only thing iconic about Cid is the name and what they do TBH. The character's gender is irrelevant.
Cidney just looks silly, hopefully it doesn't actually get used.

I'm really hoping this game turns out well. The graphics look beautiful, but that's obviously not the most important aspect of a video game. Looking forward to trying out the demo included with "Final Fantasy Type-0 HD". I'm not even that interested in FF-0 – I'm mostly just purchasing it to try out the FF15 demo, like I did with Z.O.E. over ten years ago for the MGS2 demo LOL.
Well Type-0 is pretty much a sure thing for being good quite a few sites imported copies years ago to give reviews and then there were those who played the mostly translated version of it that was being worked on by fans.
So if you don't mind the Crisis Core-like combat system you will hopefully enjoy it.
What made Kratos so big?
Her accent is suuuuper annoying.
All the changes, I don't mind. What makes a Final Fantasy work are…
1) Compelling game world w/ a coherent backstory
2) Compelling characters w/ logical motivations
3) Compelling narrative that makes sense
4) Fun and engaging, strategic gameplay
It can be turn-based, real time, medieval, modern, 3D, 2D–it doesn't matter. As long as the the gameplay is engaging, with a bit of depth, and everything about the world falls into place, it works.
FF13 failed all of those tests. It was rotten to the core, and SE couldn't let it go, because they had sunk too much money into it. They were trying to please everyone, and ended up pleasing no one. Hopefully they have learned their lesson.
FF15 is looking promising… It is moving forward, which is what the Final Fantasy series has ALWAYS done in the past. If they simply rehashed the past, they would truly be failing.

I don't see it as outside of the tradition to make Cid a nice distraction when that piece of sheet car keeps breaking down. Right job, gender doesn't matter because it's a different person every time.
