VGAs 2014 Winners Include Dragon Age: Inquisition, Destiny

Did you watch the Video Game Awards 2014 last night?

If not, you might still be interested in checking out the winners. There are a few surprises but for the most part, it seems like many of the best productions were appropriately rewarded this year.

You can check Polygon for the full list of nominees and winners but here are a few of the highlights: Dragon Age: Inquisition took home top honors; i.e., Game of the Year as well as Best Role-Playing Game, while Best Narrative went to Valiant Hearts: The Great War , and Best Remaster was Grand Theft Auto V . This year, it makes perfect sense to have such a category, doesn't it?

Other winning titles included Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (Best Action/Adventure), Far Cry 4 (Best Shooter), Destiny (Best Online Experience, Best Score/Soundtrack), and Super Smash Bros. Wii U (Best Fighting Game). Nintendo was Developer of the Year, and the Most Anticipated Game looking forward was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt .

So, what do you think of the decisions?

Hmmm… them winners seem quite underwhelming… but I think that just speaks for 2014 in general. not that I can talk my favourite game I've played this year is 'Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII'… I may have had quite a few bad features like the sidequests taking over most for the game, but it really is the game I've gotten most enjoyment out of – Mostly due to the brilliant structure of 'The Last One' quest and how it is integrated into the games world.

I'm ultimately underwhelmed by Dragon Age after the initial impression. They just skyrimmed it, leaving massive gaps in the previously intense storyline. It seems like the world is big but it's just empty space that wastes time with sidequests that you have to do because you need experience and EXP points come very seldom. Sadly Bioware used the Mass Effect style by having a huge problem then sending you out to build a team. It removes urgency and makes it dull. Plus this is the worst cast of characters, how am I supposed to care about people with no personality? Your interactions with them are all by appointment at the Haven, blah!

I got shadow of mordor, I only played a bit and it's great to see someone make a new combat system for once.

I have to agree. After finally getting in about 12 hours into it, it no longer has this epic feel anymore. I don't like my squad mates. The gameplay as a sword and shield is slow and boring (I should have chosen archer) and the story is shallow.

Good game though. Just makes me want Mass Effect 4 even more now since Dragon Age isn't what I thought it was going to be.

Got a bit caught up in it myself, the levelling is very slow, but the story does get better the further in you go

Not bad. I think Dragon Age was the right choice. I've never played GTA and I'm opting for TLoU PS4 over the GTA:V PS4, but in all fairness GTA has little more on the new and polished front. I'm excited for The Witcher 3, more so the reviews. It looks fantastic, but it's not for me if I have to strugle to make the moves every battle. It is after all an RPG? Not a fight sim, correct? Anyways MGSV is naturally my most anticipated title for 2015. It's a Metal Gear!
