The original PlayStation was an iconic games machine. Now, two decades later, in honor of that console, the PlayStation 4 is undergoing a retro makeover.
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has announced the PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition, a special PS4 unit that commemorates the 20th anniversary of the release of the first PlayStation console (December 3, 1994).
This is a very limited edition machine as Sony only plans to release 12,300 units worldwide. As you might've guessed, that number reflects the PS1's launch date (12/3), so it has historical significance but it's still gonna be tough to get. The price will be $499 in North America, €499 in Europe, and 49,980 yen in Japan. The machine will have that classic gray color, too. Said SCEI president and group CEO Andrew House:
"The 'PlayStation®4 20th Anniversary Edition' is a very special model that is reminiscent of the original PlayStation, which has inspired every other PlayStation platform launched in the past two decades. This limited edition PS4 offers a great sense of nostalgia to long-time PlayStation fans, while also providing a fresh experience to those who never picked up the original console.
The 'PlayStation®4 20th Anniversary Edition' embodies our appreciation and gratitude to all our fans, publishers, and business partners that have provided us with tremendous support for the past 20 years, and we look forward to their support as we continue to imagine and build the future of PlayStation together for years to come. We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver the best gaming experiences and to offer the best place to play for gamers around the world."
In the US, the 20th Anniversary Edition can be pre-ordered via the online Sony store on December 6. To learn exactly when and how, watch the PlayStation Experience keynote presentation on Saturday, 10:00 a.m. PST on Twitch.TV/PlayStation.
Looks fantastic, makes me sort of jealous that I gave into a Black Firday sale. I love to see the coloured PS logo returning again 🙂 Also there is a 20th Anniversary theme for the PS4… yes finally there are other themes on the console 😛
I want that so bad. The thing looks unbelievable. Anyone in the market for a black PS4? 😉
I'm with you. It makes me cry (tears of joy)….
Can't remember what colour the power led was on the ps1 – seem to remember it being green – should have made the led the same if I'm right!
Still it looks good, but I like my white one.
I believe the power color was green. I wished I haven't given my PSone to my sister ex-husband. I would had all four Playstations with me today.
I'd like to know if LV is going to get one. Seeing as how he likes to collect consoles and all.
So the color is it? Doesnt look anything like the original. That one had one big button on either side, the power and open buttons, as well as the center "pop top" disc tray. But yeah, the color is close I guess.
Ot wasn't meant to replicate the PSOne. The color scheme was meant to match as a 20th anniversary edition. And it's actually really close. They did a great job considering.
Love the color dearly, but why limited Sony? Screw the limited crap nonsense and just keep producing this in this colorway, it will sure remind everybody back in the PS1 days.

When I saw that, I was instantly sold. Nostalgia and all that coming to life. Happy Birthday Playstation
If this thing doesn't make the PSOne sounds when you turn it on and display that logo then it ain't worth getting IMO.
THAT would be just too cool man!
That PSX logo.. KreyGasm
Bundle it with the FFVII remake and we're in business.
I don't get it, looks the same.
God! are they insane or just plain stupid?
Limited edition??? They should at the least sale it all of next year. That alone would nail the X1 coffin for good!
Man I'm so going to try and preorder one.
i would love one just cos i'm a bit of a collector with this sort of thing but some how i don't think i'll be able to find one to buy
happy gaming
