Will The PS4’s Lead Over Xbox One Shrink Or Increase In 2015?

Many are saying the Xbox One continues to gain on the PlayStation 4.

We're preparing for a very interesting 2015: Will Xbox One catch up and surpass the PS4, or will Sony reclaim its earlier momentum?

It may come down to the exclusives and next year, the edge definitely appears to go to Sony's console, what with the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End , The Order: 1886 , Bloodborne , and whatever they decide to announce during the PlayStation Experience in December. Who knows, we could see new entries in both the Gran Turismo and God of War franchises in 2015, or Quantic Dream and Guerrilla could come forward with their mystery projects.

At the same time, we can't deny that Xbox is gaining a bigger and better foothold in North America, where the Xbox 360 dominated for eight years. That's a long run and consumers don't give up their loyalties that easily. On top of which, with the Xbox One being cheaper, it'll be immediately more attractive, especially during the holiday season. I seriously doubt Microsoft's machine will ever catch Sony's in other markets around the world but I've said from the beginning that the US will be difficult for PlayStation to reclaim and hold onto.

What do you think?

The Xbox One will continue to gain in the US as long as it remains cheaper.

Consumers today are notorious about their unloyalty – there's absolutely no reason to believe it's very different in the gaming world.

In fact it's already proven this first year of the new generation. PS4 is leading way, WAY more than the Xbox ever did. It's obvious where a good share of those consumers came from.

PS4 wasn't leading more than Xbox ever did, not in North America. And the power of consumer loyalty – and especially brand loyalty – can be explained by executives at Coca-Cola, if you'd like to have a chat with them. 😉

I believe the PS4 is well above twice as high as the Xbone now. X360 never was *more* than twice the PS3 was it?

Anyhow, it still proves the level of loyalty in this market. It can't be compared with eating and drinking habits, Ben. 🙂

Oddly enough, its selling more in the UK and not in the US. Double the sales of what was a weekly of 12k-15k to 30k is not that big of a leap in sales. Saying it is with the thoughts of it selling 600k every week is where the misinformation sits around.

As it stands, PS4 sits at 14m while xbox one is closing in on 7.5m sold. And I'd like to add that PS4 has sold that much without having mega franchises being delivered yet. Once Uncharted and other big games hit next year, its pretty much over, again.

Because of the issues that Halo collection has been having as well, it isn't selling like past halo games. Not to mention the Halo 5 beta being a complete knockoff of Advanced Warefare causing longtime fans to turn away from it isn't helping either. If Guardians doesn't deliver on all fronts next year, MS lost their biggest franchise and it'll be reduced to the faithful while the diehard go elsewhere.

Nintendo on the other hand has a chance to lock itself into second place next year. It's all about timing and SSB definitely delivered itself for this holiday season. Next year, Ninty has X and the Pokken fighters to showcase for E3, and whatever else. I of course am hoping for some Fatal Frame/Metroid prime stuff.

Sony is definitely playing it smart here. The momentum that isn't waning, is allowing them to dominate next year with its tons of exclusives and new features while MS struggles to catch up by showing off everything in their arsenal.

Bloodborne, Phantom Dust, Uncharted 4, timed exclusive Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Order 1886 and Crackdown.

Halo 5 doesn't have any type of challenger yet, but it also is setting itself up to be its own rival. And truth be told, Phantom Dust isn't something thats going to shift xbox ones nor is crackdown. MGSV ground zeroes sold much more on the Playstation (really? who knew!) than xbox meaning Phantom Pain has its home on Sony's console. So with this year being PS4 having best Multiplats and not as much exclusives, next year is going to swing well into the favor of Sony conquering both, multiplats and exclusives.

Course I could be wrong and the 1200$ Alienware console could become top dog. Either way, next year is going to be freaking awesome to have a Playstation. BLOOODBORNE!

I totally agree with you. Not sure if I said it here or not but I had a feeling that from the beginning PS4 would dominate and keep dominating even in the US. XBOX just did everything wrong in the beginning and gave a PS4 huge advantage. Now even though it's only slightly less power-full than PS4, less is still less, and that just adds to the PS4 momentum. Sure a cheaper price will help the XBOX but i still think it's not enough to overtake the PS4. PS4 has had a snowball momentum from the beginning, it's momentum is getting bigger and bigger, next year it will pick up even more momentum. Soon developers will realize that PS4 is where the money is (more consoles=more software sales), PS4 will be getting more and more exclusive content.

I'm buying an Xbox one exclusively for phantom dust. I have zero interest in literally anything else for it.

Much like I am buying a ps4 for bloodborne and literally nothing else. Uncharted and tomb raider are the same shitty generic game, the order runs at 24 fps and looks like garbage and Crackdown is yet another sequel to a mediocre sandbox game.

The console that has the most games worth playing is the Wiiu which I refuse to buy since it's basically a last gen console with an ipad stapled to it for no reason.

Consoles are DRM boxes, but we buy them because they have games only they can play. But very rapidly they're running out of even that. And considering console makers get their money back from selling the console at a loss by selling games, that is a very bad thing for them.

Ps4 will have a lead in 2015. Because now people play Cod on ps4 not Xbox One, just look at the sale of the new cod, it's sold more on ps4…

By losing so much ground on US and UK. Xbox one probably do 50 million lifetime sales world wide. Instead of dominating in sales with xbox360 in US, they had lost so much ground. Even if xbox one beats ps4 in 6:4 ratio, it will look like a loser

PS Exp should launch new excitement against MS super price drop success (which is only going to hurt MS since they are saying "Our product isn't worth what we want for it we just wanna win"

I'm hoping Guerrilla's game gets big interest.

I have high hopes for PS Experience. It'll take a lot to veer it in the wrong direction. Seems like the army that has been announced is enough on its own.

I agree 500% that PS Experience will totally boost worldwide PS brand hype and confidence in the platform. While I believe that Xbox One sales might take a small lead this December, I still believe that PS4 has 2015 won over.

I don't foresee it gaining substantial ground. The momentum picks up for a brief window. What it'll boil down to once presents are out of the way would be upcoming titles. How hard it'll fall relies on the success of the Playstation event.

Its obvious now that the 360 dominated sales because of red ring of death n ppl silly enough to keep buying them I know a guy who had it happen 6 times n bought another I'm pretty sure that's y so many cod players jumped to ps4 from the 360 they figure the one would be the same
