Once again, a new Call of Duty entry is the "biggest entertainment launch" of the year.
Activision confirmed as much today, and it means that the recently released Advanced Warfare surpassed all other video games, movies, music and book releases in 2014.
Interestingly, the publisher didn't provide any actual sales numbers, but Activision did say that first-week sales and "engagement" are up compared to last year's Ghosts . Season Pass numbers are also ahead of 2013. As more and more gamers gravitate toward digital, it's not too surprising to learn that the game is the "highest-selling digital launch" in console history, according to the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Activision's internal estimates.
Players enjoyed over 70 million online matches in that first week, and the publisher also confirmed that overall, the Call of Duty franchise has surpassed $10 billion in lifetime sales. …that's sort of ridiculous, actually.

Not surprised, this game was a big change from the regular call of duty games, had a bit more of a modern Crysis type feel to it
It wasn't this game solely that made 10 billion.
That 70 million matches thing is pretty crazy though.
I'll have to get myself psyched up and try this again seeing that it's so popular and highly rated.
I tried it for the first time last night and quickly lost interest. THe whole run a few steps, have a swarm of enemies run out and let themselves clumsily get killed as you just aim and pop them down one by one with a single clip is really REALLY tired to me. I prefer the more tactical more environmentally aware less arcadey style FPS. But of course I've barely given this a chance. It just feels old to me. Old in a bad way.

Some people just love arcadey style and judging by the numbers, a few millions actually do.
Some days I'm in the mood also and really enjoy it.

yea. I like arcadey too. I guess CoD's style of arcadey isn't exactly my kind of arcadey these days. Because, really, I can only think of one true arcade FPS. I think it was called War, and it sort of sucked, even for it's time.
My idea of arcadey is like racing games, fighters, brawlers, pac-man, and light gun shooters etc. Those are where my heart is.
But I'm gonna get psyched. Tonight is COD AW! gonna be taken away by the mindless twitch action!

here it is! War. Bring the TRUE FPS arcade experience home. it'll only cost you a grand.
So Temjin, how was your COD AW night, something special?. Honestly I haven't touched it for a week now, I'm too busy with AC4 Black Flag.
I used to have a Pac-man arcade machine in my home and loved it, but you know, got married and some things changed…
@Ben Dutka: well, what do you think ben? will destiny still outsell COD: AW? hehehe ^_^
well a billion a year for 10 years and you get 10 billion which is ridiculous i don't think COD is really worth that i think other games are much more worth that kind of value but then again i don't really matter in this cos i'm just one dude and there are like 10-15million people that disagree with me but watever i'm not really interested just don't think COD is worth 10 billion or 1 billion but thats just me
happy gaming
I think there are a lot of people that will agree with you that other games are more worthy. The thing about CoD is it caters to everyone! Most Games just don't.
I really really agree with you that there are so many games out there which are better than AW, really, I do. But as I said, sometimes I feel in the mood for playing it.
Nice. Glad all that money is being used to continue making more Call of Duty games and not try anything new.
You guys make so much, why not give Crash Bandicoot back to Sony activision?
Either way, AW is better than Halo 5's multiplayer. Which is hilariously similar to it.
AW is actually behind the times a little even though it's more future'ish. Halo of course is one of the first FPS to involve a vertical element to gun play. Now in 2014 Destiny refined that and is a million times better even than AW. Then AW came a long…
