The Division Devs On Graphics Differences Across Platforms

The bottom line is that developer Massive Entertainment doesn't like the term, "downgrade."

Speaking during a recent Open World Games interview , Massive's Martin Hultberg addressed the report that the team might have to "downgrade" The Division 's graphics from PC to consoles:

"Downgrading is a weird term to use. Obviously, we want to make a game that looks the best it can on its respective format, so Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. So I think the term downgrade is a bit confusing and weird because we're trying to get the most out of every machine we use. So Xbox gets its attention, PlayStation gets its attention, and PC of course will be able to cram it up a bit more depending on the hardware you have."

Unsurprisingly, this discussion thread lead to the question regarding technical benchmarks; i.e., 1080p high-definition resolution and 60 frames per second. Hultberg wouldn't nail down specifics, but he said the team treats "every platform as its own version." They want to avoid the "least common denonimator" problem and are focused on delivering the best possible experience. Very noble but of course, people are still going to ask questions and complain.

Lastly, Hultberg teased an alpha or beta test, saying he believes such tests are "very important." Tom Clancy's The Division , one of the most anticipated games of the new generation, is slated to arrive some time in 2015. For more, check out our preview .

Can't wait to see how this games turns out. It seems like it's going to have to compete with MGS:V and Wticher III. It's a different atmosphere so it has a chance.

I can't help but shake the feeling that glitches, balancing, connectivity, and lack of story problems will most likely come with it. I'm getting a Crytek vibe.

On the plus side I'm glad no platform will be the limiting factor.

I'm very intrigued by this game. I don't see any other shooters on the horizon as of now. Frontline doesn't intrigue me enough (as of right now) for me to consider purchasing it. I'm sure there will be another CoD or Titanfall, but I'll see what those look like then.
