Most analysts believe Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be another step in the wrong direction.
With pre-orders tracking well behind last year's Ghosts , industry experts are firmly convinced of the franchise's market decline. But unsurprisingly, Activision isn't quite ready to throw in the towel.
In speaking to GamesIndustry.biz , Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said they're "optimistic" thanks to increased interest in the community:
"We see purchase intent well above last year and we see engagement with the brand in social media channels all being markedly up, so I'm still optimistic."
Hirshberg reminds everyone that sales estimates are based on pre-orders and how the physical copies will fare, but we live in an increasingly digital-oriented world. He also said that while pre-orders "are a good barometer for day one," they don't necessarily "reflect the overall demand for the product."
As for the directive Activision gave developer Sledgehammer games:
"Our brief to them was: Go further than you think we want you to go. Make us nervous in a good way–and come back with new ideas and new experiences … and they did."
It does seem to have worked. The early review scores are more than favorable .

When you see harscore cod gamers step back, you had best listen. I refrained from pre-ordering because I feel like activision, as with previous top selling games, has opted to drain and exploit the hell out of tge franchise and customers. Of tge roughly 30 hard core cod gamers I've played with fir the last 7 years or so, 95% of them chose to not pre order and instead will wait and see if the issues that have plagued this game for years have been resolved….based on the comments I've seen running, the jury is still out. Gamefly has shipped my copy, I'll examine it…give it a go…currently, the bar is set pretty low, will be interesting to see if they've managed to raise it any.
I should hope so. Wasn't Ghosts a regression?
Very much so.
Heard from a lot of people this new cod is actually good. I have nothing to play atm so I'm going to give a shot.
It should…this COD is actually pretty innovative for the franchise. Lots of new customizations online and adding Kevin Spacey is a nice touch too
they are activision they are suppose to think it'll do better they want to make lots of money on the casual game market primarily and thats not to say the core gamer won't be buying it i know some of you guys and some of my friends will be getting it but thats the main based of buyers for activision but yeah its gunna ether sell better or worse i'd say at this stage
happy gaming
