The anticipated firmware update 2.00 for PlayStation 4 has arrived, but not without causing some problems.
While it has delivered themes, customizable soundtracks, and the very cool Share Play feature, it has also generated a few well-documented issues.
One of them involves a bug with the system's Rest feature, while others cause machine freezes and crashes. If you're experiencing such problems, you might want to check this out . Just remember that there isn't anything official about this; Sony hasn't exactly put their stamp of approval on the process. However, there's no reason why it shouldn't work and provided you back up your content, it can't hurt to try…right?
Or, you could just wait to see if Sony gives us a patch that addresses these problems. Up to you.
That's good option.
I'm gonna wait for an official solution since most of my games are digital. And I redownloaded everything when I changed my HDD.
What IS the rest mode bug? I hate how they release these things that just poison our consoles.
Wheb you select rest mode, the orange light keep blinking and the only way to turn on your console is unplugging it.
This can result in damaged files or the HDD itself
no, don't unplug it. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
thanks for letting me know!
I might just do this in the morning.
But then the only question I have is: will the official fix mess up my clean install?
Another problem. That's why I love Sony…
Thank god I rarely use rest mode.
Mine has been freezing without using rest mode
ok, reinstall update:
I decided not to wait until morning. The file from that article isn't the right one, that seems to be an update file and not the full install file. Go to Sony's website to DL the right firmware file (search "Sony PS4 firmware download" in google) and make sure you go to the New Installation part. The file should be over 700 MB.
Anyway, I re-initialized and set everything up again and low-and-behold, NO MORE REST MODE ISSUES! It seems to work as it should. I'm assuming everything else does as well, although I didn't really notice problems with anything else.
Very nice! Now I will set my games to download, put it on rest mode, and in the morning I'll copy my saves from my USB that I backed up.

Mine did this not long after I got the console back in December. Hasn't done it since mind, even after the update.
I haven't experienced any crahes/freezes yet, but I don't put PS4 to sleep mode. I will wait for the official fix – I'm not in the mood of downloading 300GB of games again… ;/
good old $ony every time they release a new update it f*cks something up!
then you ring their support line and they expect you to pay the nominal service fee as its "user damage" when they are the ones who damaged it by hiring toddlers to write their operating system!
yeah i know it was putting my ps4 into sleep mode with the orange light which is anoiying so i have to turn it on to turn it off again sigh sony really
happy gaming
if u hadn't heard the sleep mode uses alot of power like more than stand by mode or something so yeah i'd like to turn it off so that i don't waste power un-neccessrily doesn't happen thats my complaint

I'm just going to wait for a fix. I hope it comes soon, though, because I've always used Standby since I got the system at launch and turning the thing off every time I'm done with it is a bummer. No charging, no downloading, no remote play.
The messenging systems seems to be playing up post-update as well – sometimes it won't send, and when you re-send it sends two!
my Netflix app isn't working properly since update. Anyone else having this problem.
I hav'nt had any problems with my ps4 YET, i've tried out rest mode an it an it awakens jusf fine.
Weird. I only put my PS4 into rest mode and have never had an issue. My kids only put my PS4 in rest mode and never mentioned anything.
It sucks for people having issues though. I hope they get it fixed quickly and before anyone corrupts their HDD.
i downloaded the update (small one about 2oo mb) i couldnt do option 7 like the article said, it kept giving errors like usb not connected and such, so instead i did option 3 to just do the update and it read usb right away and installed the update, the rest bug was fixed for me this way, didnt have to re-initialize or backup any files at all… so download update — safe mode — install update option 3 — bug was fixed for me
It wouldn't do option 7 because the update was the wrong file – the ~200 MB file is an update, not a full file for a new installation. The full thing runs aver 700 MB. I used that file with option 7 and it was fixed for me as well.
Sounds like what you did was less hassle though, nice!
