Some people get all bent of shape when they learn a game was shipped with DLC hidden on the disc.
Well, Bungie president Harold Ryan admitted that some shared-world content was shipped on the Destiny disc. This might annoy you but as Ryan explained to Eurogamer , there are technical reasons for this move:
" Both inside the US and all over the world, how much you download on your local home internet connection can be a problem, and even how much storage space it takes up on your console. So we share a lot of assets across all the activities in the game. When people get into areas that aren't unlocked right now, they're seeing pieces we built and shipped ahead of time, but they're by no means the finished experiences or even the finished content. "
Ryan added that much of the content for The Dark Below was built over the last three months, well after the main game was compete. Eris is a brand new character who will take on new missions, and all the story, events and bosses were created after the game shipped. For the record, The Dark Below DLC lands on December 9. So, what are your thoughts on including DLC elements on a disc when it first ships?

I don't care that they put some assets on the disc.
But knowing the modern gaming community, it will be shamed relentlessly.
the idea that every concept and asset that was created up till the day the game was released should be part of the base game….. haha. makes me laugh.
Indeed. No developer gets through development of a game without already having a plan and even assets created for future DLC.
That's not called shameful, that's called proper planning.

i see well i guess as long as you have a good enough and legit reason you can i still don't like the idea of on DISC DLC it has a slimey feel to it but this bungie so maybe they won't be dicks about it

If you have DLC coming out for a game just a couple months after its release it probably should have been in the final game. I get the argument that it was planned. I get the argument that it was in development before and shortly after release. But that's more reason it should have been included.
While I never make a fuss about this type of thing because I'm all for extra content, there's a line there somewhere. I just don't think it's clear where it's at yet. I'll continue to just accept the practice because as I said I'm for extra content. But at some point I think developers need to look at their product and say, you know it just doesn't feel complete without this… in the case of Destiny I'd say that would have been spot on.

I think we have similar thoughts on this.
Not sure if some here are not aware of GT6 method of expanding the game, but just because its planned doesn't mean it has to be a paid thing, specifically if some of the assets n framework are already on the discs. It's really about the vision of the developers meaning of the "complete" game. If they release a game that's not "complete" to their vision n instead just release earlier n hve it as payed dlc later, then that's the line I fear about this practice.
Don't get me wrong. I'm just trying to describe the fine line between extra content n integral content to the developers vision of their complete game. I don't know about destiny n how "important" this is to the main game but if it's an integral component of the game's campaign or story, then I have a problem with it, especially the price they're asking.

Fair enough some places don't have great broadband (or at all) however, if you want something you will find a way such as download it at another location.
As for the storage issue, sure store it on a disc but to cover both of the points (internet issue and space issue) why is there not an available DLC disc to purchase afterwards then?
I'm not really bothered by this. I've glitched into a couple of the locked locations and they are clearly not finished content. Many games don't get anywhere near as much criticism for day one dlc.
One thing that does bother me is how much people bitch about a game that they've got well over a hundred hours of gameplay from. I'm not saying the game is perfect, but if you hate the game so much why do you continue to play every day?
Well I've got 60 hours with my level 26 hunter. Since I got the game for $64 (Australia) I think I have certainly got my moneys worth.
Probably will start a Warlock sooner than later and get that one up to level 25 or so quickly.
So from a dollar per hour perspective Destiny is excellent. I don't understand the griping.
For the DLC, another $20 I may get another 20 hours of play. That's not too bad. It's a good relaxing way to spend a few hours in the evening.
