Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is supposed to reverse the franchise's downward trend.
But according to Cowen & Company analysts, it doesn't look like that'll happen. As reported by GamesIndustry.biz , the new entry will likely continue that fall from grace.
The analysts examined Amazon's pre-order tallies and came to the following conclusion:
"Advanced Warfare is now pacing almost 40 percent behind last year's Ghosts and almost 70 percent behind 2012's Black Ops 2. We continue to believe CoD will be down meaningfully vs. last year. With the franchise facing two consecutive significant year on year declines in sales, we think it is prudent to assume it has peaked."
Already in 2014, we've seen the record for most pre-orders broken twice; first by Watch Dogs and then by Destiny . This means that obviously, people are pre-ordering games, so it remains a decent predicting and analysis tool. When looking at those pre-orders, it seems clear that Call of Duty isn't even generating the interest the franchise generated three years ago.
Last year's Ghosts definitely didn't help matters. But hey, if Advanced Warfare turns out great, more gamers will respond, right?

i think most people are still butt hurt over the ghost let down so theyre hesitant to buy AW. im only renting this game bc i realized its not worth buying any cod game unfortunately. its only rent worthy in my book.
Been watching all the multiplayer gameplay and I think Ima pass on this one unless it scores a 9 or more. We will see :'(
I'm pretty much being forced to get it with a 1 TB Xbox One. Kinda sucks that all my friends prefer Xbox over Playstation. (Think 10 close friends with Xboxes vs 3 friends with PS4's)
Anyway, with the 1 TB HDD, I just couldn't resist! Problem is, the Xbox One comes with a download code for CoD AW, which means I can't trade it. Yep… Being forced to own CoD.
I used to have fun with it back when CoD 4 MW and Black Ops came out, but the campaigns have been getting shorter and shorter, and the pace of multiplayer is just getting faster and faster to the point where it's the player with the fastest reaction time who wins, not the player with the best strategy.
Watching the MP videos of Advanced Warfare, I thought the video had been sped up in editing. It wasn't!!! CoD AW is so fast paced now that it's almost unplayable for me!!! Especially now that I'm nearing my 30's.
This will be the only CoD I own this generation. Fortunately, the campaign of this one seems to be shaping up nicely, but will be interesting to see if it can live up to MW1. (The aircraft bomber level still holds a place in my heart. Still waiting on another version of that level to feature in a CoD, done to the same fantastic pacing and commentary)
yeah kida sucks that u don't have as many friends on ps4 for me its the other way round but i guess i lucky that way

If they had made a new cod every 3 years or maybe even 2 or so, it would've still been loved by all just as much as cod4 was instead of an annual release which just made people bored of the whole concept, i mean look at metal gear or god of war, especially grand theft auto, whenever there's news about another of those installments people shit themselves all over the place.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where it's all about earning the mighty dollar!
I'm sure they woulda pumped out a COD every 6 months, if they could, back in the day! lol
for me yeah no lost interest in COD ages ago and i won't be going back got plenty to keep me busy plus there are lots of other games that i would rather get
happy gaming
I lost interest in CoD since Black Ops 2. Never bothered with Modern Warfare 3 nor have I with Ghosts, and unless there are miracles and a LOT of amazing reviews, I will be boycotting buying Advanced Warfare too.
There are far better, more immersive games these days that I'd rather spend my money on..
Treyarch for me it seems.
Heed the "writing on the wall".
hasn't been a good call of duty game since the halfway decent (but nowhere near great) modern warfare, so why expect a good one now?
The pre-order recorded that was broken was for new IPs though. But CoD fatigue is certainly a thing and probably compounded by how Ghost was received.
