The PlayStation 4 could certainly use a system-selling exclusive title.
Perhaps the first one will be From Software's Bloodborne , which should drop early next year.
The question is whether or not it has the far-reaching appeal that all system-selling games must have. There are several problems with this: Firstly, it's a new IP; it's not an established series like Gran Turismo or God of War . Of course, those in-the-know understand that it's created by Dark Souls studio From Software, which immediately makes the game intriguing. However, that knowledge is mostly shared by hardcore followers of the hobby and games that really move new hardware often have broader appeal.
Secondly, considering the niche following for the Dark Souls games – and in fact, any game that's brutally difficult – one wonders if such a production can have a big enough impact. Granted, the titles in question have often sold very well; they may be niche, but they've got an extremely loyal following. That same group should respond favorably to Bloodborne . However, I'm willing to bet that analysts aren't necessarily expecting a hefty spike in PS4 sales just because of Bloodborne 's release.
What do you think?
Related Game(s): Bloodborne
It could be if it is marketed right. Fans of the Souls game might make the jump depending on how far out the next Souls game is and how thirsty they are come February.
I don't think it will be a system seller. Not only the difficulty of the game but also spooky/dark (and I guess it's gory?) tone will not appeal to every teenager out there and I'm sure there are lot of these gamers.
Personally I've never played Dark Souls but I am intrigued by this title (love games with dark setting).
I think it's a real sad state of affair if Uncharted turns out to be the only system seller from Sonys 1st party productions.
They really need new IPs now, and that work should have started years ago.
It won't be. God of War and Gran Turismo are givens, and there are new exclusive IPs at Guerrilla, Quantic Dream (Dark Sorcerer), and several other studios right now.
Hopefully Sucker Punch's new thing will be grand.
The game theme look too dark, probably the hardcore gamer will like it…
Most certainly not. This is a game tailored to the hardcore gamers who, most likely, already have a PS4. I mean, we may see a small sales spike, but the Souls games have never been huge sellers, and the look and tone of Bloodborne aren't really going to appeal to a general audience.
The Order, I think, will have broader general appeal that may cause a small spike, but right now, Sony's first party offerings are looking pretty bleak until UC4, unless whatever they're supposedly set to reveal in December turns out to be absolutely massive. And by that, I mean that it needs to be something like GT7 for a confirmed 2015 release…
Probably not. The Souls games have a cult like following, but I don't believe that they've ever sold EXTREMELY well. Throw in the fact that this is exclusive to one system so it'll probably sell less.
Ben is saying will it sell consoles to souls fans not on board with next gen consoles yet.
I think it will, I have a lot of Souls friends who don't have a PS4 or Xone, and they are going to get a PS4 when this game lands.
Its going to sell units to the existing souls fans who haven't made the jump yet, but outside of that I'm not sure a game this dark, and hard will sell to the masses.
BUT I hope it does 😀
It doesn't matter if they will be Souls fans or not. If the sales will see noticable increase on the day and a bit after the game is released – it means that this game caused it. Fans or not – whatever.
PS4 coming around a year, we hope to hear more interesting Sony exclusives cause Idh a PS4 yet.
Gonna depend on it's scores and the ability for normal people to play.
Not sure if it will be a system seller as previously stated but I'll be one of those crazy fans to get it day one. You need something challenging every now and again. Rather than just sitting like a zombie putting up a kill count.
i think it'll be bigger than the "analysis" are expecting cos some of them don't seem to understand us all that well alot of the time and we the gamers are the ones that dictate how much anything sells so i think i'm willing to bet that it'll do better than some may thing thats all i'm gunna say
happy gaming
It will be a huge hit.
People doubted Demon's Souls and look what happened. The Souls games have always sold into the millions (they don't spend millions in budget making their games) so make a good profit from the Souls games.
