I've been pretty hard-pressed to hand out 9s this year.
And if you had told me at the start of 2014 that by October, I'd have handed out a grand total of six 9+ scores and only one of those scores was awarded to a brand new game, I would've laughed.
And yet, here we are, and the only 9+ scores have gone to Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition , Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition , The Last Of Us: Remastered , Tomb Raider Definitive Edition , the TLoU Left Behind DLC…and Child of Light . How did this happen? How, in a year with inFamous: Second Son , Dark Souls II , Watch Dogs , and Destiny , did it end up this way? Granted, I have high hopes for Assassin's Creed Unity , Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age: Inquisition , but still…
Child of Light remains a highlight of the year for me. And it has nothing to do with nostalgia or the inclusion of turn-based combat. This wonderfully inspired, amazingly artistic painting-come-to-life was just magical from front to back. How many different games can we say that about? "Magical" isn't an adjective I use often but I can't seem to come up with a better one for Ubisoft's beautifully presented RPG. In a sea of blockbusters that didn't quite deliver, Child of Light reminded me why I still play video games. And that says a lot .
P.S. If anyone is wondering, no, The Evil Within will not be getting a 9. Review coming in less than 24 hours.
Related Game(s): Child of Light
CoL was okay, but I think I put it in the 8ish realm. This year was tough. Wolfenstein was a true pleasure, Bound By Flame was ambitious, and the mystery/story/characters in Murdered: Soul Suspect have made me happy.
Starting The Evil Within right now!
I need a progress report. Is it worth getting at full price?!
Any chance of an "alternative" review World, since you're an uber-fan of Survival Horror?
Anything's possible, LV I'll get back to you.
If the real deal survival horror is worth full price to ya then yup.
Okay, now I'm really interested in CoL. Gonna get a copy later.
Oh, and (pretty sure this was already mentioned here somewhere) it runs on the UBIart Framework!! ooh, the wonderful wonderful tech behind this game… *tears*

There have been some good games this year, nothing spectacular thus far, but CoL is definitely a good one.
I still love the music in that game!
col is an amazing game. for what it is, its really well compiled.
That says a lot about this year then doesn't it, it even rivals 2012… which was a disaster! I mean the only game I have played this year is Lightning Returns… so who am I to argue with this choice o_0 I hope 2015 makes up for this.

I hereby predict that Far Cry will land on the lower half of the 80s, and Dragon Age will land on the higher half of the 80s. Ergo no 90+ there either.
Unity I have no predictions for. 🙂

I beg to differ, sir. Far Cry will land in the upper 80s if not 90.
Dragon age I cannot predict since I've never played any of them.
Unity I'll say it'll be within the 85 range.
Hmmm – shall we make a bet? My bet is that Dragon Age will land a slightly better metascore than Far Cry.
And let's add in a bonus to the bet if they land within the estimated score ranges we predict.
Up for it?
Depends, what's your bet?
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and FFXIV have been my favorites so far.
I still need to check out this game.
I think the best new game I've played this year is Wildstar – and that wasn't even that great.
Luckily there's plenty games from 2012-2013 to enjoy while we wait for Dragon Age.
yeah dragon age looks like a fun action/multiplayer game
Abe's Oddysee New N Tasty is probably my only 10/10 game this year.
It stands out of all the games I've tried on my PS4 so far. But Civilzation: Beyond Earth on PC, will hopefully be just as sweet but in a different way.
just one more turn…
FFXIV is my game this year. Although that's last year, I guess.
I've been pretty unimpressed with this past year in general.
is it really a good game even its simplicity
happy gaming
