Sony really wanted to promote Destiny as a PlayStation 4 game.
While most understood that Activision's blockbuster was a multiplatform effort, Sony secured timed exclusive DLC and even offered a Destiny -centric PS4 bundle.
But it doesn't seem to have worked.
According to a VentureBeat report , Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes the Xbox One significantly outstripped the PS4 at US retail in September, making it only the second month that Microsoft has won the next-gen war in the North American region. He's expecting 325,000 Xbox Ones vs. 250,000 PS4s and statistically speaking, that's not really close.
However, let's not forget that Microsoft handed out a free game right around the launch of Destiny , so maybe people simply responded to the freebie. Also, it's not like Pachter's word is gospel; he could be completely wrong. Even so, even if PS4 and Xbox One sales were just about even, it would seem that Sony's efforts didn't really pan out. Destiny was by far the biggest launch of the month, and it was the one game that could actually push new system sales. And if Xbox One won that mini-war, well…
All it would do is solidify what I've been saying all along: If you're a shooter fan, there's a better chance you're an Xbox fan as opposed to a PlayStation fan. This is just the unvarnished truth, whether anyone chooses to accept it or not.

No, Ben, this is according to Patcher. His own thoughts on it. The dude works for Microsoft, and he really shouldn't be believed based on his word without evidence.
Name 5 times he's been right in the past 5 years.
They guy hasnt ever been right and i just got confirmation that PS4 outsold Xb1 in september
And here I thought you had actual numbers, instead you report a Michael Pachter prediction.
Looking at history, you'd be a fool to put any stock in his predictions.
He was also quoted at the same time saying this is the second time since launch this has happened, pretty sure it hasn't happened yet.

Yeah I'd rather get the game for free than get early DLC… especially THAT game. God knows I regret actually paying for it.
The CoD Advanced Warfare preorders are higher for Xbone than PS4 right now, according to VGCharts. That's pretty telling of the Xbox player base considering there are twice as many PS4's out there.
I'd be interested to see if the one-sided marketing for Destiny had an impact.

those are all fake numbers from vgchartz. Their numbers are from the ass of ioi –their main admin and also a banned neogaf member. This whole thing is from Pachter and PS4 outsold Xb1 according to insiderp
Kinda depends also on when folks bought the PS4 "for" Destiny. We always knew it'd be the best version. Lots of factors but yeah it's kind of Xbox home even though they b i t ched about it most.
PS4 outsold xb1 in September. That crazy prediction is from Pachter that crazy analyst from Morgan Stanley
Boy, patcher is full of crap. The ps4 has been trouncing over the xbox one since it released. Destiny has sold over 2 million alone on the ps4. Xbox one, not so much.
Ben that crazy prediction is from Pachter. I emailed the admin of Insiderp, who has the leaked numbers for September. He informed me that PS4 outsold xb1 by more than 100,000 units in September. The reason the guy didnt put it on his site is because they dont subscribe to NPD
Uhhhhhh.
Since when did people decide to listen to anything Patcher said?
According to VGChartz, the PS4 outsold the XB1 every week during the last month. Although they aren't an official source, they are always very close to the official numbers released by the Manufacturers.
The last weekly update had the PS4 @ 57k and the XB1 @ 40k.
Patcher also predicted the PS3/360 were the last generation of consoles. Among many MANY other outrageous things.
P.S It took me awhile to realize this was a PSXE article when I was on N4G earlier, because the sensationalist headline is uncharacteristically controversial for PSXE.

Pachter is probably counting all the special edition xbone console preorders like cod adv war n sunset overdrive that undoubtedly many will be canceled b4 they get pickedup so lmfà o
Uhm Pachter is full of it. Destiny sold extremely well on PS4. Not sure where he pulled that crap from?!?!
Lol not a single commenter believes him.
Depends on what stats you're using. VGChartz has PS4 sales for the game almost doubling the XBO sales. I can't say whether it was a system seller, although the same source indicates that the gap between the systems has remained the same (roughly 2:1) since last I checked, so I doubt that Destiny has pushed PS4 sales any.
Beyond which, this is Pachter. He predicted that Destiny was going to sell 15 million units within the first year of availability, and right now it's hovering about 6 million. Compounding the apparent error is the fact that most people know that most games sell the most copies within the first two months of availability, with only a few outliers selling well beyond that point. In short, I'll take this with a pile of salt while we wait for the official figures.
That 2:1 ratio is why I though Destiny sold more on the PS4. I even questioned this not long ago stating how Destiny feels more like an Xbox game but was told that it sold more on PS4. I mean I am not to fussed really, Destiny is not my type of game, I'm just a bit confused.
Just delete the article that guys always way off
Lol, anyone can be an analyst based on all the prediction i read from those guys . I was more right then them about whatever they tried to predict by simply using my better judgment or simply common sense ( Like Ben saying microsoft got the shooter fan ).
Either way Destiny still killed it for the PS4 selling almost double the X1 version.

Grain of salt with this guy.
He may only be talking about North America. I'm pretty sure the worldwide sales numbers are like twice what is quoted there.
Why even believe a word from this guy? You're looking at the person who thought the XBone would outsell the PS4 for the generation. That's obviously not happening. Pachter also predicted that the XBone would outsell the PS4 in August, but the PS4 sold better according to NPD.
Honestly only reason Im gonna get a PS4 over Xbox is MLB the Show and Naughty Dog.
Nah Pachter it's like a MS cheerleader, he does a disservice to the gaming community in general in hopes to maintain the already broken MS fanboys moral, still I welcome this Pachter articles just for the lols hes our buffoon 😀

As per many other comments, one analyst's prediction isn't the truth, it's just a possible indication. Pachter's a nice enough person, but he's not terribly accurate. Either way, we'll see when the NPD's are out :).
Could be true. Sony has cut down on advertising at a crucial point. Marketing goals at Sony are probably a few sentences wrong and what irks me is that they never learn from past marketing mistakes.
VGC has the PS4 above the X1 by a large margin globally and above it in both the US and UK.The software sales for Destiny are much larger as well.Patcher has no credibility.
Well, it worked on me. I have both a PS4 and an Xbox One and I ended up getting the PS4 version due to the timed exclusivity of the DLC. Having more friends playing the PS4 version than the X1 version helped, too.
yeah it seems that way but what can u say you can't blame them for trying and some people just weren't going to buy destiny on ps4 so that s all they could do for the marketing anyway
happy gaming
