Dragon Age: Inquisition Hits 1080p On PS4, 900p On Xbox One

It has become a common refrain, and I'm willing to bet Xbox fans are sick of hearing it.

Yet another high-profile multiplatform game will perform slightly better on Sony's next-gen console, as BioWare recently confirmed via Twitter .

As you can see, Dragon Age: Inquisition will run in 1080p HD on PlayStation 4 but it will only hit 900p on Xbox One. The studio frankly said it was the best they could do, as they "maximized the current potential of each platform." We've heard this many times before from other developers, although recently, Ubisoft evened out Assassin's Creed Unity so it would look the same on both PS4 and Xbox One.

We've heard that Microsoft has been in touch with designers in an effort to get 1080p out of the system. Do you think the two consoles will eventually manage 1080p with relative ease in the future?

I hope they do, that way, games won't be held back anymore. condense the hell out of the 360 version if you have to.

Ha, I said 360 version. I meant the xbox one version.

It's about GPU power though – there's a disparity, and you can't get around that. If you get resolution equal, they'll be missing out on texture detail, frame rate, shadows, AA or something else. It's often better to drop the resolution and keep the artistic vision than get pixellated shadows in 1080p.

I appreciate their honesty, no silly PR games or lies to appease folks or make their work easier.

So… now… is it 60fps on PS4?

From what has been said, nothing is official on the FPS. I've seen posts of some claiming the XB1 version is 30FPS, but that's not a credible source.

I don't see a game like DA running 60fps. With all the draw distance, on-screen NPCs, and processing effects… At most, it'll be a dynamic VSYNC. At worst, 30fps…

yeah I don't see it running that way either unless it were built just for next gen consoles. I won't honk about a 30fps threshold on this one, I just want the game to be a LOT better than DAII.

What is with these 900p? Is that some some standard? It must not be a cooincidence

This has been the norm for quite a few games recently. And even though the PS4 is still getting games at 1080P a lot of people acted like that isn't the case.

Either way it appears the PS4 is the only next Gen console. I have a feeling when Uncharted 4 comes out its going to be on a whole other level than what we have seen. Although we've seen glimpses of great physics in Knack, some great graphics in KZ, and intricate detail in Driveclub. I feel we havnt seen anything yet. And to prove that we keep getting games that are running subpar on the XboxOne. I truly believe that console is holding development back beyond resolution.

If The Order doesn't deliver we may have to wait for Uncharted 4 to see "next-gen". Cuz so far nobody is doing it.

@World
I haven't seen anything groundbreaking in The Order tbh…

I don't think The Order will be that game by any means. I'm not expecting it to, being that the developers are new to consoles in general. And it doesn't have to be to be good.

But there's been many glimpses of next Gen so far. The most amazing is the physics in Knack. What the PS4 allowed them to do by creating a character made up of potentially millions of pieces and all move fluidly with each other was amazing. There's been a few glimpses as I said but it won't be until Uncharted 4 that we really see it. I definitely agree with you in that.

I don't think it will either but it has the opportunity. Sometimes things surprise you like TLoU. Any game looks normal in video but you can't tell until the controller is in your hands affecting the world.

I would love to be surprised by it. And yeah I totally think it can be that defining experience. I just want it to be good, and if it looks decent in that scenario – awesome!

Lets remember if ps4 is at 1080p, it can do better because its locked at a standard hd resolution. If xbox is topped at 900p, that means it cant push the hardware any more. So when ppl lock to 900p, its locking more capabilities of ps4 than you think

That is a weird statement and do you have any source or proof to this? Anyway we don't need any more then 1080p as this is standard these days – full HDTV IS 1080p.

…aside from 1440p resolution tv's.

Why would anyone want to buy a 1440p TV?… I mean aren't they now reaching 4K anyway? I know Blu-ray movies are now having 4K transfers. So buying something in-between 1080p and 4K just seems foolish.

bigrailer19

Well you could purchase whatever. But by that logic why buy 1080p? I mean aside from pricing…

I personally don't think anything over 1080p is necessary. It's a cool thought. I was just being more sarcastic than anything with my comment because I think most people feel the same way.

This is a very serious problem, if it were the other way round and the PS4 which was producing 900p games I would be devastated, heck I think I would hold off even longer in buying on than I already have. The reason I am buying one in 2015 is to experience Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in full 1080p 60fsp. it's the technical capability of the PS4 release this is making me upgrade from the PS3 version so this is a really big deal breaker for the Xbox.

We've had 1080p TV's prior to the PS3s release… I just cannot understand why the consoles are lagging so behind. Heck I heard with the PC release of MGS5: Ground Zeroes its going to be in 4K resolution! … If that is even possible then how the new generation of consoles already be struggling barely after they have begun

The ps3 had the same problem in it's first year, maybe some developers will find some more umph with the xbox one. Unfortunately I haven't heard of any stories of the system having a powerful but complicated architecture. So it might be that what you see is what you get.

possibly hard to say but the ps4 should keep putting out 1080p no problem

happy gaming
