Bungie: Sifting Through Destiny Gossip Isn’t Helping Much

Everyone has an opinion and rumors are hard to stop.

Therefore, maybe it's appropriate that Bungie is vague when referring to such rumors. There has been a lot of talk about the developer and Destiny and recently, Bungie Community Manager David "Deej" Dague responded to the issue…well, sort of.

Dague had this to say:

" We’ve seen a lot of theories about Bungie on the Internet this week. I understand why that stuff is compelling. The drama of the rumor mill is a symptom of a greater issue: We all want Destiny to be better. The problem is that sifting through gossip in search of truth doesn’t bring us any closer to a stronger game. "

How very diplomatic. Last week, some players spotted a bug in the game that showed pieces of unreleased content, including locations and events that lined up with previously confirmed DLC. Bungie said these are placeholder nodes with names that may or may not change. Then again, Dague could be referring to recent rumors concerning the plot in Destiny , and how it might've changed in the last phase of development.

As for the latter part, that wouldn't surprise me. The story is mediocre at best and it feels jumbled, so…

Poor Bungie, it really must be tough. Half the people love it, the other half hates it.

Its really an interesting game release. It really does have gamers divided on how they feel towards it.

I personally love what it does well, the gunplay, and the control is tight but it just doesn't feel worth 70$.

I mean the Free to Play game Warframe is less grindy, and has more variety to the mission structure. Not to mention there is a cool story even though its not always at the front.

I think thats what I keep comparing Destiny to, I'm not a huge Warframe fan I play it once in a while, but considering that game offers for free what Destiny does for 70$ well, it is quite disappointing.

The story for Destiny was a huge let down, actually the more I read the grimoire the more saddened it makes me. The Cabal are like these crazy strong aliens and have the ability to launch a moon at earth, but like in the game they are faceless grunts that die easily and we don't know why we are fighting them.

Ah well, Destiny can only get better right?

Destiny is so repetitive. Same thing every mission. Waves and waves of enemies. Other than that, it is fun, I guess.

Its fun but way to repetitive for a $60 game. Barely any variety in the missions. Most missions you go scan something with ghost, then he sends you to some location. There's a door he has to unlock and it will take some time. Then you kill a wave of enemies, oh it still won't open more enemies on the way. Then the door opens you go kill the boss etc etc.

How about instead of sifting through gossip in search of a "truth" they will never find, they just swallow the pill & admit that their game is not going to appeal to everyone who picks up a pad. The game has divided opinions, some love it, some hate it & it will most likely stay that way regardless of what Bungie say or do. It was never going to be the holy grail of gaming anyway. It is what it is.

It reminds me of the first Assassins Creed, game was hugely anticipated but received mixed reactions all over the place but managed to pump out nearly ten more games later on. 😀

I am seriously blaming Activision on this one I really think they must've rushed Bungie or something. If you watch the earlier behind the scene Dev interviews or even early gameplay videos a lot seems to have been cut pretty far into development.
Then we have the Grimoire cards which have 100x more lore and back story than anything seen in the final game itself.

As Kevin pointed out hopefully Destiny will end up like Assassin's Creed and simply get better from here on out.

I have the same feeling. Something is just off here. The person who wrote all those cards wasnt even hired untill Feb. 2014. It seems like whole missions filled with in game lore were just cut a year before release and the cards were there to fill things out. Some entire playable missions and environments they showed off over a year ago are not in the final game.

I really won't mind if everything we saw in the story trailers eventually makes it into the game through expansions, and the game eventually does become what it looked like in the trailers. After all the amount of content in both the story missions and multiplayer are more than the average FPS, minus the missing story. I just hate that feeling like we were about to get more initially, and very late in development that changed, probably because Activision said so in order to make more money. My speculation only.

It does feel like something drastic happened to the story late in development. Like they gutted it at the last second to sell it to us later. That reddit post was pretty convincing, but you can never tell.

I'm a little confused as to what he meant by "The problem is that sifting through gossip in search of truth doesn’t bring us any closer to a stronger game." Does he mean Bungie sifting through gossip for a truth they would already know, doesn't make the game any better? Or, us going crazy coming up with theories with what could have been, doesn't make the game any better?

Either way thats not the problem. The problem is the story, no matter how it got to this point, and the feeling like we were hyped up on something, just to have it scaled back right before release so they could sell it to us later. I blame Activision. Hopefully, all the mixed reactions will light a fire under Bungies ass like positive reviews could never have done, and they'll deliver something closer to what they showed off at e3 2013.
