If you own a PlayStation 4, you must have a Plus subscription if you want to play games online. But maybe you haven't been tempted enough to plunk down the $50 for a yearly membership.
If so, this weekend's special promotion is for you: As announced over at the PlayStation Blog , you won't be required to be a Plus member to play online this weekend. The free sample begins Friday, September 26 at 12:01 a.m. PDT and ends Sunday, September 28 at 11:59 p.m. PDT. So, have fun playing recently released games like Destiny , Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition , and Madden NFL 15 !
Of course, online multiplayer isn't the only reason to be a Plus member. Discounts on all PSN products, early access to demos and betas, Cloud storage, and other perks are plenty of incentive, too.
*Sighs* I really wish PS+ wasn't mandatory for online. Metal Gear Online was the only game worth playing online on my PS3 and since that has been down I have been struggling to find a replacement (Max Payne 3's 'Payne Killer' mode was might close though).
But I cant justify paying a yearly fee for online. If The Phantom Pain's online mode is as engaging as MGO with MGS4, maybe but I have yet to be convinced by anything else. GTA: Online was boring online, the only thing I did was rob all the stores then it just fell to generic match making for 'missions' preferred Red Dead Redemption online.
You only have to pay $30 if you wait for black Friday/cyber Monday/week or any other sale, which is what I do. And in my humble opinion, the free game collection and rebates alone makes up for it, so you don't feel the sting for having to pay for mp.
What sucks is that with the protected save games u can't back them up, only through the PS cloud and that means a fee just for that feature.
PS Plus being mandatory for online is a sad thing. I mean, You literally miss half of everything in Destiny if you dont have PS Plus. The strike missions rule! Althought the nightly strike missions sucks and it isnt fun. At all.
Main reason I have not bought PS4. Should have been in this weeks poll as an option.
Something even I didn't know about the PS+ feature on the ps4 and its payonline thing that differs from xbox's online payment service is that, on the ps4, you can talk to people go into parties and talk to friends or whatever, and not have plus. You literally only need plus for the online multiplayer stuff.
That's a lot better than I first figured it to be.
