Project Morpheus About 85 Percent Done

We don't have a price or an exact release date, but we do have a status update.

As reported by The Wall Street Journal , PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that Sony's virtual reality initiative, Project Morpheus, is approximately 85 percent complete.

Interestingly, Yoshida added that many of the device's components are actually used in smartphones, so that should help keep the retail cost down. He has also said in the past that Sony will not release Project Morpheus until there's sufficient software in place. This is a common refrain from Sony as of late, as they strove to have plenty of software for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 launches.

You psyched for Sony's VR?

Not likely. I'm not a fan, but VR is something that has tremendous hype in the tech world.

Yeah the gaming world is ready to strap a device to their heads to play a game. This is different from any of Sony's failed peripherals, why? Anyone thinking otherwise is so f'n out of touch your last name should be Pachter. Straight up.

Have you not also heard of Oculus Rift or Google Glass? They are similar peripherals, Google Glass being different in that you see the rest of the world around you, too. lol

I can't be blamed if you ignore like… the entire tech world. There's a reason multiple companies are pouring a ton of money into R&D. It's unlike things like Move. Move is just good engineering with tech we already have easy and CHEAP access to. It was not overly expensive R&D in the slightest. It was a response to a gimmicky moment in time where they could not be the only competitor not doing it. This VR stuff is all new, and multiple companies believe there's enough market interest to race towards figuring it out and getting their patents up quickly.

Everything about it, from tech R&D to the marketing and financial aspects of it all, is in no way, shape, or form at all like any recent "failed Sony peripheral" you might be referring to. Don't get all testy with me just because you're wrong. It's not even like I disagreed with you in a way that was offensive.

And no one says "straight up" anymore.

I'm definitely excited for VR and PS4 is my favorite platform, so I'm the most excited for Sony's VR. I do think Sony should expand to multi-platform hardware support and give free public APIs for Android or PC usage.

I wants it. I would prefer they release it with one super great AAA game though instead of a handful of neato demonstration games like the PSEye.

While I want it I think it'll be more of a flop than PS Move.

I am excited for the new Maxwell based Geforce 900 cards that were just announced.
They more or less proved 1969's moon landing was not a conspiracy with the aid of the new cards.

Nvidia is one company I'd like to work for.

Looks good to me, I think it's use as a peripheral looks great (note I'm one of the apparently few that got their moneysworth and more from Move – I don't need a peripheral to have a hundred games for it to be worth it, it just needs a few good ones). The big trick will be selling it, as the naysayers (and for a medium based on technology, there are an unusually large number of people that are resistant to change or trying new things) will need to actually strap on a set to get an idea of how it works, so I think VR will take a little while to take off.

I'd use it for P.T & Silent Hills but that's about it.

The only thing that would make this flop is an astronomical price point. Either that, or Morpheus needs to be more than a tool for Playstation. It should just be something PS can use, and it should do all that Oculus Rift and other competition might do.
