Minecraft Hitting PS4 On October 7, Vita Version Still Coming

It hit a snag when the game originally failed Sony's certification test, but it's back on track.

As announced over at the PlayStation Blog , the PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft will finally hit the world of physical retail on October 7 for $19.99.

At the time of release, players can download a patch "to ensure you have the best Minecraft experience possible on the PS4." The downloadable version of the game released earlier this month and if you already own the game on PS3, you can purchase the upgraded iteration for only $5. Sony added they'll have cross-buy details concerning the PS3 and Vita versions "in a few weeks."

After Microsoft purchased Minecraft developer Mojang, some wondered if the Vita version would actually happen. But Xbox boss Phil Spencer is on the record saying the portable version will indeed show up at some point.

They bought a 150 million dollar game for 2.5 billion dollars. HILARIOUS

Um…you do know that Minecraft has sold 100 million copies at 15 bucks a pop, right? And that Mojang is a billion dollar company, right? And MS makes money back right away just on the value of company alone, right? And anything the company produces, be it Minecraft 2 or something that can be made a success by marketing it as "from the makers of Minecraft" will also make them money, right? I'd say you did but I know economics ain't your strong suit. Earlier in the year, I read a hefty post from you regarding the state of Sony and how they were officially back in the back. They are projecting a 2.1 billion dollar loss. Any more pearls of wisdom? Stick with Broodborne, my man.

I'm shocked that Microsoft is going to let Playstation still have Minecraft.

With a dying console, a dead plan to take over the living room, and a money black hole I think they are considering going the Sega route and doing just software.

I miss the Sega console days. I bought the Dreamcast on day1 and would have gladly bought another system from Sega. Sony, like any company, needs competition to keep them moving in the right direction. I just wish it wasn't MS. I hate MS.

It's the future of the property to be concerned over. MS knows very well after the Tomb Raider deal how bad the net can explode over such things. It's better to smooth over the deal by making it appear like everything is normal.
I have no doubt sooner of later MS will leverage Minecraft to their advantage.

Yup love my Dreamcast, aside from having smaller disc size it blew PS2 out of the water with processing, resolution and frame rates. Someone just dropped the ball on getting the big 3rd party games plus having a strong first party setup that wasn't just Sonic.

Castlevania was gonna be great on DC… I wish they would step in with DC2 when Xbox dies.

the DC had just a few advantages over the PS2. Notably it's then spacious 16mb of VRAM. This usually meant for higher quality textures and higher resolution games at 480p. But the PS2 destroyed it in polygon crunching power and light sources. It could also transfer high amounts of data around real fast, making games like GTA3 possible.
It also had stronger computational power with two co-processors assisting the PS2's CPU. Games like ZOE2 would pretty much be impossible on DC unless significantly downgraded.

The thing though about DC is that it was much easier for programmers to get a handle of.

I just don't understand why this game is so popular.

I've never even played it. It's like virtual legos?

I think that's why, imagine you have legos as a kid but instead of a limited amount in your basement you could work up to a point where you could play with unending blocks and make them live.

I had so many great castle defense battles with my legos.

It's not just a building game. There's a survival game there as well which is the main game mode.
