Battlefield: Hardline Delay Should Result In “More Innovation”

Innovation can be difficult to find these days.

This goes double for the first-person shooter genre, although some current projects are looking to create new experiences. Take EA's Battlefield: Hardline , for example.

Visceral Games CEO Andrew Wilson says they pushed the game back (it's now set for early 2015) because they wanted to bring "more innovation" to the game. He added that feedback gathered from the beta was a big part of the reason why they delayed the title, as players were saying:

"'Yeah, we like this. This whole cops and criminals things is cool, but we think you could be doing things more differently.'"

At the time of the delay announcement, DICE Karl Magnus Troedsson said that feedback caused the company to "start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better." Both single-player and multiplayer experiences will benefit from the extra time, which is good news for all FPS fans.

Of course, it's difficult to get away from the standard "go there, shoot something" formula. That's just the way shooters are, for better or worse.

I couldn't stand the Beta. Like Infamous said….it shouldn't have BF in the title. I really hope they release a BFBC3.

I'm a big bf fan but I'm passing on this. I would prefer bad company 3, bf 2043, or even a full blown Vietnam or 1943 game.

No jets or tanks = no fun. I prefer the war setting. I never liked flying helicopters in battlefield games.
