Destiny is here and for most of 2014, Sony has been telling everyone that it makes the most sense to purchase Bungie's blockbuster on the PS4. They're not wrong, either; consumers have definitely listened.
You've got that special Glacier White Destiny PS4 bundle and on top of that, let's not forget that a lot of gamers have been waiting for an excuse to leap aboard the next-gen bandwagon. Even if Destiny isn't #1 on their most-wanted list, there are bound to be games on the immediate horizon – this holiday season or during the first quarter of 2015 – and they're gonna want a PS4 or Xbox One pretty soon. Lastly, the word-of-mouth for the PS4 continues to be excellent while Xbox One is having difficulty shaking off many months of shaky PR.
Therefore, don't be surprised to see a sales surge for the PS4 in September. You'll see one for Xbox One, too, of course; it just won't be as large, I don't believe.
Please, its no secret xbox one isn't selling for anything. Its the xbox all over again, and people just need to stop being nice and accept it. PS4 is dominating everything right now, and its momentum isn't slowing down. Xbox one has its user base and it'll grow somewhat but it won't get anywhere near the PS4's monstrous sold already.

Thats how it should've been in PS3 era if it weren't for the high price. Xbox literally ruined at the JRPG. While the PS3 was down, they slapped cash in the japanese market where they can never even touch. Ocean Stars, Tales of Vesperia, Final Fantasy. They were all ruined in some ways as Xbox trojan horse into the people's home. Developers get into the trend with cash for timed exclusivities. The gaming market became to so unhealthy.
I am glad that the PS4 is dominating. Lets hope some games return from the good old PS2 days

Oh dear.
the problem I have with the "Xbox killed the jRPG" theory is that the vast majority of those Square releases were considered fair at best so Square themselves more or less reaped what they sewed. As far as I'm concerned from the land that never had much Xbox success in the first place probably didn't consider too much what was has happening stateside alone when it came to their RPG's. I think it likely there were a number of other factors that caused the fragmentation of the jRPG market. This includes the japanese push for more mobile devices and the slowing of TV set-top boxes.
…and for those paying attention Japanese games of any kind haven't been a big part of western game releases for quite some time.

For Sony to make that deal with the release of Destiny must have been the best marketing move so far in the (short) history of this generation consoles.
True. MS must've thought that continued COD early DLC access and the Titanfall grab would be enough. This will be more profitable for Sony this gen then both of those combined, by a lot, I believe.

We had quite a few ps4 destiny bundles come through on my shift at the distribution center I work at on Thursday, which means they had a lot come in because the game systems usually only get shipped out on the morning shift. I think that was a bit of a run-on sentence, but it's two am and I just started playing destiny so I just don't care. Plus the collapse of society and what not.
i think it will increase sales but how much is yet to be seen

I remember when Titanfall released and how it was the Xbox's killer app. Now I can't remember the last time someone mentioned the game.
Destiny, on the other hand… just, wow! This thing IS big!

While I don't disagree I'm really curious though to see how the sales breakdown goes in America. Most AAA games in the states have held a 30% or greater lead on PS4 via the always accurate VGchartz. But these leads have been on more neutral ground games (Watch Dogs and Diablo). But could MS's more acclimated Bungie-loving sci-fi shooter core respond to close some of that sales gap for Destiny or is Sony's heavy marketing enough to squelch any gains?
