What Convinced You To Buy A PS4?

Sony was ecstatic to announce that PlayStation 4 had exceeded 10 million sold worldwide.

I thought it was interesting that they also admitted the following: They're not 100 percent positive as to how it happened. So, I thought we'd try to help them out.

Just tell us in the Comments below why you opted to purchase the PlayStation 4. Obviously, it only makes sense to answer if you currently own Sony's new console; this isn't your opportunity to bi*** about why you don't want one. What is your reasoning behind the purchase? Be candid.

Is it because Sony convinced you throughout 2013 that the PS4 would be the console to own come fall? Or, are you a lifelong fan of the brand and buying the new system was a foregone conclusion? I'm guessing not a lot of people will claim the latter, because Sony has said a fair percentage of PS4 owners never owned a PS3 and in fact, never even owned a console last generation. Maybe you bought the new machine because you knew PlayStation always delivers on the game front and eventually, the PS4 would once again be the industry leader in the realm of cutting-edge exclusive software.

You can admit it if you bought the PS4 simply because you despise Microsoft. I know a few people who were rabid Xbox 360 followers, and were so pissed at the unveiling of the Xbox One, they decided right then and there to get the PS4. Hey, bad PR really sucks, you know?

I can give you plenty of reasons.

-Best graphics available on consoles.
-Best games (in terms of overall design).
-Being on the forefront of the new generation.
-Being able to be a part of new emerging gameplay that devs are pushing with the start of a new generation, such as Destiny.
-I always need to have the latest tech.

And the biggest reason:
-The knowledge that I was there when the PS4 started. When the new golden age of gaming began. In 10 years time when gaming is an Olympic sport, I can say I was there when the boom began, day one. I always believed that this generation was going to see a revival of console gaming in a huge way (not that it was ever dead). The timing was perfect, the consoles were perfectly marketed. Gaming is no longer the niche geek thing that you get teased about, gamers are held as heroes in some countries.

Humanity…… was ready.

ditto to akuma. But mainly that the console was being geared towards gaming. I don't get a console for it to be my central entertainment hub. I want to play games. And all the games that have come out since launch have been great imo. Destiny is what I'm looking forward to the most at this point.

Nothing yet, there's no game I feel I absolutely must play on it yet, maybe in a year or so that'll change.

Because I enjoy Sony's consoles. Ever since PS1 I've been on board. Why stop now? 🙂

Other than being a Sony faithful I have to say the potential the console has at presenting me new innovative games or genres I never would've touched, the inevitable release of Gran Turismo, and the presentation of Destiny at PS4's reveal.

One more week! 😀

I had the money and never bought a system at launch before and it looked pretty good.

I got one because I'm a Playstation fan. I've owned a PS3 since 2007 so naturally I preordered a PS4 and got one at launch.

because Stone Cold said so.

other than that I am a Sony Fanboy that hates MS.

and other than that I just know what games I can expect, that are of high quality. Sony's consoles usually has a nice variety of titles that only appear on Playstation because they are willing to take on risky projects and niche genres.

Funny, that's exactly why I *haven't* bought one yet: the PS4 seems more like an Xbox than a PlayStation.
When (not if) the first-party studios start releasing new games for it, I'm sure I'll get one, but I don't crave it like I did the PS3.

My reason for getting a PS4, it's the developers (refer to profile pic). Sony always has the best exclusive games, they do more than just FPSs.

The new controller and the games. I know people have been down on Knack, but My eight year old daughter and I have been playing the hell out of it. Metal Gear, Second Son, Killzone, and Dynasty Warriors were big reasons I bought it at launch.

Many a reason.
1) I'm loyal to Playstation brand because the Playstation is loyal to me.
2) Playstation delievers the best quality.
3) Microsoft is evil and needs to die!
4) I've been with Playstation since 1995
5) The inevitability of next gen Fallout
6) To tell "PC Fanboys" to f**k off, I'll NEVER OWN A PC!
7) Exclusives the Calibur of TLoU
8) Many more reasons etc.

Bunch of reasons. I prefer my games on console, and for health reasons gaming is my main hobby these days, so I kinda wanted to be there on day one just to go through the growing pains (although they were far smaller than I expected) and see things develop from day one.

So I was always going to get once console. PS1, PS2 and PS3 were all the consoles that I enjoyed the most of (for a combination of technical, controller and game library reasons) of each generation, so PS4 was always the front runner before Microsoft went and shot itself in the foot.

And while having the best tech isn't the most important thing for me, it is a factor.

So best games, best tech (for console – I game on PC as well, but console is a whole lot less of a hassle), good track record and best studios (which will hopefully mean the best exclusives).

Oh, and WARRR THUNDERRRR :).

I'll tell ya why I'll get the PS4 this holidays:

– First coop games have arrived, and my best coop buddy is a playstation gamer
– Netflix and blu-ray. The PS3 is retired to the cabin. We need an enterntainment hub in the living room.

Always been a PlayStation owner. Simple as that. I preordered the PS4 as soon as it was announced, however, I cancelled it to go travelling. When I came home, I got it the day after I landed. It was always going to be part of my collection.

Even though I wasn't blown away from the games (I have 3 so far and 2 are PS3 remakes), I got it so early because of remote play. Sony promised that remote play would work with all PS3 titles, when that failed and they changed it to PS4, I was itching to try it out

simple, WWS, why else would you buy a playstation?
everyone buys playstation because they offer the best exclusives, well, i should say USE to.
cant believe were almost a year into the lifecycle and we still do not know what most WWS are doing.
in fact we only know one, ND.
RAD is a 2nd party studio if i remember right.
everyone else, SP, largely sony japan since they have multiple teams, GG, london studio, MM, santa monica studio, quantic dream, ect, ect.
THE largest first party library in the industry, and we still have so few exclusives set to release within the next 4 or so months, so 1 year lifespan of the system.
$ony REALLY need to show us SOMETHING, hell even if its just a completely fabricated CGI trailer at least its SOMETHING to go of, and something to give us a idea of what will be coming.
think of the teaser E3 reveal trailer of the order, revealed nothing about the game but still gave us a taste of what to expect.
why cant at least 2 or 3 studios give us that?
dying to see what cory and his team are working on!
especially after the amazeballs GOW3 was!

God of War 3 was directed by Stig Assmussen. Cory Barlog did GOW2, which is also amazing.

Akuma_
Akuma_

So now they are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

If they show off a CGI trailer 3 years from release, then everyone will spend most of that time complaining about the game and throwing around theories about how it is cancelled or the dev is doomed or some bullshit that this community makes up by morons.

Also, pretty sure some developers do have respect for themselves, and are not going to release a trailer just to build hype. They will do it when they are ready to show something.

GG has said all year that they aren't ready to show their game. Good for them. Do it when you're ready.

After all, patience is a virtue.

actually cory was the director of GOW3 for quite a few months into development, then left leaving stig to take his place.
whered you get 3 years from?
cory said his new game will most likely be announced at E3 next year.
of course not 3 years in advance, but not so short and close to release either.
bloodborne a perfect example announced at E3 this year, releasing feb next year not even a 1 year cycle!
people would of gone ape sh*t if $ony had shown off even a teaser for it at TGS last year, hell imagine how much it would of helped the sales in JP!
especially when theres so few exclusives to look forward to.
if we had tons to look forward to then there would be no need to show off any early work, but were not, so they really need to give people SOMETHING to go off!

I been a playstation gamer since 1996.

I used to have the PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, PSP, PSP Go and PS Vita. So the logic leap it to buy the PS4.

I also had a Xbox 360, which was turned on very little specially at the end of the previous generation. In the foreseable future I don't see any reason to buy a X1 (Sunset Override is not a system seller right know).

I bought the PS4, because PS has enough games to fix my gaming needs and down the road I know the best exclusives will be on PS4.

And it's cheaper.

Funny you should say that… ever since the very first trailer of Sunset Overdrive, I have NO CLUE as to why people are talking it up so much. It's basically less serious and more colourful Infamous.
Not that Infamous was bad or anything, but people talk about Sunset Overdrive like it's something new and amazing.
I don't know… maybe I'm just a jaded gamer.

Finally bought one just last week. Apart from what has already been said in other posts, and apart from the more obvious reasons (e.g. TLoU:R), I just couldn't pass another week without playing these two games on a Playstation 4:

1 – DC Universe Online
2 – Final Fantasy XIV: ARR

I'm happy. ^_^

I normally buy all the consoles, though my favourite has always been the Playstation brand. However, this generation, I didn't buy the X1 or the Wii U.
So, perhaps the better question is, why didn't I buy the other 2 consoles?

And yes, I am pissed and very angered at Sony over the whole debacle.

You're pissed and angry at Sony for delaying the game so that it could be greatly improved and is now the best looking driving game to ever grace a gaming system?

I kind of feel sorry for you.

I mean, they released it last year, it would have been something like BF4. Big hype, big disappointment.

I own 2 PS4'S and have the destiny bundle ready to go. Am I a Sony fan? Hell's yes…. because they are willing to push console technology forward and their track record with a consoles life span is incredible. I don't even consider xbox one next gen because their system memory is so last gen, when I heard that the PS4 was going to have 8 gigs of gddr5 for both system and graphics memory it was a lock.

I bought the PS4 because I miss out on owning a playstation console from the start last generation. I had the PS1 when I was young and still have fond memories of playing reboot and MGS1 (FFVII as well). I completely missed out on owning a PS2 since my family had no money, and when they did I got an xbox so I only ended playing PS2 games either with friends or managing to get someone to loan me one for a game or two. When the next gen-consoles (360 and PS3) came out again I ended up with the micro box because it was cheaper. When I had my first job I bought a PS3 with my first pay check and after playing on it, I knew that Sony is the way forward. I don't even need to mention the exclusive games on the PS3 that the 360 could never match. I bought the PS4 because, quite simply, I trust them. I have since owning the PS3 and after having Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony consoles, Sony had the most consistent quality when it comes to both there hardware and software, games included. RANT OVER.
