What’s The Next Game That Will Give PS4 Sales A Boost?

Every console needs a software-generated sales boost now and then.

We know sales spikes occur after hardware price drops, but it's more interesting to examine the upcoming release list and see which titles might generate console sales boosts. What's the next PlayStation 4 game that will generate a significant uptick in PS4 sales?

Is it Destiny , which launches next week? Sony has been crowing about how it's in a gamer's best interest to play Bungie's hotly anticipated shared-world shooter on the PS4, what with the PlayStation-exclusive content and everything. Theoretically, while the PS4 and Xbox One will undoubtedly benefit from the arrival of this blockbuster, Sony's console should have the edge.

But does it need a big-time exclusive to generate that hardware sales surge? Historically, PlayStation consoles have thrived during the release of a high-profile exclusive, like when Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec launched for the PS2. Then you could make an argument for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End , Bloodborne , or The Order: 1886 . In this case, though, the latter two games are new IPs and that's always tricky. Uncharted 4 , on the other hand, might be the definitive next-gen experience to date, so…

What do you think?

I won't let myself get excited because all indications are it will be a few more years.

@World, Bethesda Game Studios has had almost 3 years since they finished Skyrim, I think you can safely say holiday 2015 is the LATEST in my opinion.

PSN, if Fallout 4 were planned for holidays 2015 I believe we'd have heard about it at one of the conventions this summer (E3 and the likes).

So I will be very surprised if Fallout 4 comes during 2015. But man do I hope we will.

There is no way BGS is moving from their traditional three year cycle to SIX!!! Dishonored wasn't even hinted at until a little longer than a year before it's release, and publishers are announcing things sooner to the actual release than they have historically. I see it next year, unless BGS is working on something different.

Holiday 2015?

We COULD see an E3 2015 announcement.

Although lately developers have been announcing their games 2+ years in advance.

Either way, I don't expect to see Fallout 4 for quite some time. BethSoft are working on it, no doubt about that, they are a big developer. They are probably already working on the next TES as well.

Destiny, The Order, Uncharted 4, Quantic Dream project, in that order.

Yeah I agree with that list and the order.

Destiny is going to be huge for Playstation. Especially with the white bundle.

Don't forget about Bloodborne either! Everyone is totally hot for From Software.

Except for Quantic Dream's game. Honestly I don't think that QD move as many consoles as people think. Their games are more of a niché than anything. Didn't Beyond sell terribly?

Don't care about the sales. They're doing fine without big games.

Just give me a themed Bloodborne ps4 and I'll buy another one or two.

I think the PS4 will keep going at a steady rise, remain the #1 spot but without major spikes caused by any one title.
When this generation is summarised I think we will look back and say that it was the multiplats that maintained the PS4's position. So far absolutely *everything* has been the opposite of before, so why not.

I haven't bought my PS4 yet but after watching 2 upcoming games, I'm decided.

Uncharted 4 looks awesome and Silent Hills is sick!!

Both Sony's exclusives, right? So, no M$ this generation for me either…

I'd expect Silent Hill to pop up on Xbox as well, but you can bet your house on Uncharted 4 being a Playstation exclusive :).

If U4 will be at least as good as TloU the sales will skyrocet.
I know it's old but we may see increase in sales when remastered GTA5 will hit the shelves.
And don't forget about MGS5! So excited about this game…

I think the broad range of games on PS4 will be the biggest thing to keep it chugging along, with 'little' spikes as high-profile games in different genres bring people in. Project CARS, The Witcher 3, Uncharted 4, GTA 7 and the like will all generate small spikes, but there'll be a strong underlying week-to-week balance as well.

all I know is I've seen a whole lot of people over the weekend carrying PS4's out of stores. When I was at GameStop to get Resistence 3 a person walked in and bought a PS4 in the process too. He was actually unsure about what system he wanted but the two associates their strongly urged him for a PS4.

and Dualshockers is reporting Beyond Two Souls Remaster has had it's PS4 trophy list leaked. Yep. there's the PS4 system seller!

and hey, what about Vita?
anyone notice the always reliable VGchartz is showing that the Vita is sorta exploding in Japan?
I'm sorta wondering if Vita will maintain its lead over the Wii U.

yea, it looks like Wii U will likely outsell the Vita.

yeah we knew that Beyond was coming. I'd like to have it but maybe at the lowest price possible. I haven't even finished a second playthrough though because there's a lot of non-decision making areas to get through. I just wanna get to the end to see what else can happen when I make those choices.

I wanted to play it but because this community seemed inconsistent with it's reception I've decided to hold off for the time being. But I probably won't play it on PS3 knowing that it'll probably come to PS4.

Didn't Beyond sell poorly on PS3? That's a really odd game to be porting to PS4.

Also, why were you buying R3 this late?!

It would have to be a game that does a great job at tackling a couple of genres. Destiny comes to mind. The broad appeal is something that makes people of different taste want the same thing.

I think Sony is in a good spot because most of its exclusives exclusive games are generating a lot of talk. All will sell systems beyond the norm of units moved. The timed exclusives and heavily promoted multiplats are going to drive sales. Where there isn't much in graphical diversity, there's apparently plenty of console exclusive add-ons.

Harerazer

Obviously it's Destiny since the game has a hardware bundle.

Akuma_
Akuma_

Destiny first and foremost.

Last gen, there were MANY titles that either launched on 360 well before PS3, or had exclusive stuff on 360. This creates the idea in peoples minds that if you buy the game for that console, you will get the best experience.

Sony has REAAAAAALLY been pushing Destiny as being best on Playstation. Advertisements all over the place, exclusive hardware bundles, in-game exclusive items.

All of the polls I have seen around the internet suggest that on average 3/4 of people that responded to the poll will be playing Destiny on PS4. That is for a game being developed by the previously Microsoft developer Bungie. That's HUGE! I haven't analysed any of the market data, but based on the community feedback alone, I would say that Destiny will be huge on Playstation. Sony have bet on the right horse.

We also have games like Bloodborne, whose developer has created a little sub-genre of their own, with hugely devoted followers. They will follow FS to whatever console they grace.

Uncharted 4 will no doubt sell tonnes of units.

The Order MIGHT shift a few units, but I don't think we'll see a huge uplift. I see it in the same vein as Infamous, a mid-level exclusive.

Hopefully Driveclub will push some units, that game looks absolutely stunning. Makes a car enthusiast drool!
