With every new update we receive, we become more and more convinced that No Man's Sky will break boundaries.
Developer Hello Games is working on an exceedingly ambitious open-world sci-fi adventure that uses procedurally generated environments to create countless fresh worlds.
In a new post over at the PlayStation Blog , Hello Games boss Sean Murray talks about what makes their project special. In point of fact, even though it has "trading, combat, weapons, ships, and a core game," it's the "quiet moments of discovery" that really stand out. And check this out:
"The cool thing is that every planet has a single number, a random seed, that defines everything about that planet. A single random seed generates every blade of grass, tree, flower, creature. So as the developer I can note down the planet seed, and then just go back there any time I want. We demoed this at Gamescom, just jumping round the universe to different planets. There are no load times, because nothing needs to load, as the planets are entirely computer-generated."
That seed dictates how many planets you can discover "before things start to go a bit crazy and undefined." They're working on a 64-bit system, which is 2 to the power of 64, or 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 possible planets. Hence, even if you found a planet every second, it'd still take 585 billion years to find them all!
Here's the new Infinite Worlds video, too:
This is what i want:some action but also very much to discover in a sf atmosphere, great

I think it's really cool we're finally getting a sci-fi exploration game that isn't inherently about shooting everything in sight. I love action! Just nice to get some variety.
That's insane! I wonder if weather will change throughout the year for each planet (if applicable)… Such an awesome game!
Enjoy many moments of perpetual boredom out of this game.
What's not to love?
This was one of my households most anticipated games.
Just the simple fact that it would take over 500 billion years to explore is just amazing to me.
Just remember the prime directive, and everything will be okay. And TRY not to mate with the stegasauruses. Ah, who am I kidding, you're going to try it, aren't you?
This game is the kind of imaginary fantasy I had in my head when I was a kid who only had access to games like Asteroids and Defender. I'd play those and pretend I was piloting a ship in a huge universe that I was helping, but to explore it I had to leave the game and go play pretend games in and outside of the house with my imagination.
Do kids have or need imagination anymore?
They do! It's a matter of letting the exploit it. Parents do too little parenting and too much baby sitting. It's easier to let them stare at a TV instead of doing creative activities that exploit their imagination.
My son came up to me this morning when I was eating some breakfast and just said, "Daddy inna bubble?" Then he poked me and said "pop!".
I threw my hands in the air and said, 'YES! I'm free!' And we laughed and we laughed….
So yeah, we both still have imaginations. lol He's only 2 and a half.
LOL your kid is SO immature!
lol and I hope he never grows up! :'(
It's been a long time coming, but the power of our gaming machines has finally got to the point it can support 3D procedurally generated content, and it's exploding, with No Man's Sky one of the banner games. Great times ahead – this is just the start, when they've got a few years of refining it under their belt, many 3D action games won't be the same again :).
I imagine it'll be a while before anyone gets the find every planet trophy for the platinum.
I'll likely check this out when it releases. I may even pay full price for it to help support Hello Games.
I don't give much of a care if my money goes to helping games that have already sold 5 million+ copies but I do like the idea of supporting the little guys where every dollar counts in a big way.
on another note.
Can anyone vouch for Strike Suite Zero for PS4?
It's on sale this week and it has my name written all over it but I just don't know if it sucks or not.

I can! If you ever played & enjoyed the X~Wing/Tie Fighter games on PC you should feel right at home. Controls take a bit to get used to & the graphics won't win any awards but its a fun & challenging game.
i have heard nothing but good things about this game and have nothing but good things to say about it myself it looks great.
happy gaming
