We're mere weeks away from what could be considered the first true "next-gen" experience.
Bungie has confirmed that their hotly anticipated shared-world shooter, Destiny , has officially gone gold. This means it will undoubtedly be on store shelves on its intended launch date of September 9.
Said Bungie's David "DeeJ" Dague in the developer's update:
"Destiny is done, in some respects. Even now, so close to the end, it still feels like we’re just getting started. How we’ll keep things lively on the frontier is a longer conversation – the sort of thing you could base an entire discussion around – a conversation that we hope is long and fruitful and just getting started in its own right."
They've said in the past that Destiny has a ten-year lifespan, which could allow it to become yet another billion-dollar IP for Activision. The publisher also has a new Skylanders and Call of Duty coming out later this year, so they'll definitely be on a roll. Destiny is GameStop's most-pre-ordered new IP in history, some retailers haven't managed to keep the Limited Edition in stock, and 4.6 million people participated in the beta test last month.
So yeah, this one's gonna be big .

It's nuts thinking that it's both Gamestop's most pre-ordered game AND it's been heavily pushed as a day one pre-download release on PSN.
EDIT: which I imagine there'd be a whole lot of hardcores who don't want to be in line at midnight. Instead they'll be able to play AT midnight with their digital edition. And with a game that's perpetually needed online who cares if it's physical or not? The game is only as active as Bungie's servers are.

lets just hope the servers are ready to handle all the players.
@Shaytoon That is my only worry. Hopefully that beta helped. But maybe it is less Bungie/Ativision's servers we have to worry about than the actual PSN itself. =
aye. indeed. even with the beta Sony blocked off regions of the US to sequentially launch the game to help reduce the surge. I suppose this is somewhat circumvented by midnights that are divided among time zones.

I almost want to cancel my pre-ordered physical copy for the early download. *almost*
Well I'm sure a lot of Gamestops will have midnight launches for this game, so that will help.

People are so excited about this game.
Somehow, I am not.
I think I'm excited for it for very different reasons than everyone else.
I am getting this with my White PS4 bundle on the release day.
It will be my first console that isn't black since PS1.
My Golden 3Ds do not count.
I am not the biggest shooter fan, but I did like Unreal Tournament back in the day, it is arena shooter but yea.
I haven't watched many trailers or did I participate in the beta as I want a fresh experience of the full game.
I would like to play this game with someone from this community.
BlinkBoy also my PSN Id.
They didn't really give us much story in the alpha or beta, but I know where you're coming from. Usually when I'm really excited for a game I avoid watching trailors or reading anything that pertains to to the story.
I didn't think I would like Destiny until I played the alpha, so it got a pass.
I just wish this game would have released a month ago so the summer wouldn't feel so wasted.
I wonder if bungie will be perplexed as to why they sold so many copies of the game.
I hope some store here breaks street date.
It doesn't matter.
Bungie have said their servers won't go live until midnight on the 9/8. So even IF a store was to break the street date, you couldn't play the game until the release.
Since you need the servers to even get past the loading screen.
For some reason I can't see this selling as well as everyone imagines. I could be wrong but.. I dunno.
