Shooters Jumping Ship In 2014 To Avoid Destiny And CoD?

Yes, I know the developers said they need more time in each case.

However, before the delays, there were a half-dozen high-profile shooters on tap for the fall: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , Destiny , Far Cry 4 , Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel , Battlefield: Hardline and Evolve .

As of now, the latter two titles on that list have been pushed into 2015. I don't necessarily doubt the reasoning – more time needed to hone and polish – and I'd strongly recommend that EA not muff another Battlefield launch. That being said, I wonder if marketers for these companies examined the situation and supported the idea of a delay. It's interesting to note that the two games that were delayed will subsist almost entirely on multiplayer, which just so happens to be the forte of Destiny and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare .

Look, there are only so many hours in the day. I find it hard to believe that players will be able to invest enough hours into two shooters this holiday season, let alone three or four. You need practice and time, and you need to really get involved in these multiplayer experiences if you wish to succeed. To be perfectly honest, I think the majority of FPS fans will play Destiny and the new CoD , and the others might fall by the wayside. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was part of the reason Hardline and Evolve are now in 2015.

Between Destiny and Cod:AW, I wouldn't blame other companies for avoiding them. They will have the FPS genre locked down for awhile.

Smart move i think from both companies… Destiny looks like it will have a good launch and we all kno how many fans CoD has

The new CoD has the potential to bring back old fans too. Wouldn't be surprised if it pulls bigger numbers than Ghosts.

I must admit that it did look good

wasn't the Hardline beta a big disappointment or something? perhaps they just felt they needed a lot more time if it had any hopes to compete.

Oh yes, it was a huge disappointment.

They won't compete. I don't care what any of the people who actually liked the game say, I don't see Hardline competing with any other of the major FPS franchises. No way.

First impressions mean a lot, and Hardline's first impression was "meh".

Wouldn't be surprised.

OO but did u see all that rage in Chat when showing the new COD how it wasn't exactly the same as the past 6! Loved it XD

Well see how the game stacks up, but just all the hate from the bros and kiddies means they might have a chance to be a good entry

not only shooters, so many games originally due this year have been pushed to next.
simple fact of the matter is its taking developers allot longer to get use to the new consoles thus forcing them to delay their games.

No surprise there , both stand no chance with a release close to those 2 games .

They also need to be the best they can so people are gonna want to put cod/destiny down and play those pushed back games .

Yeah,my thoughts exactly,if this is true than this is a big loss for Sony.
This is BIG news,
i like tomb raider[the last one was great,but a bit to easy],man i don't like this.

Doesn't SE own it now? I thought they fell out of love with exclusivity 10 years ago.

Crystal Dynamics just said on their twitter that it's exclusive to Xbox One.

That is a big win for MS. It's going to be like the Uncharted vs TR now for both consoles. Exciting stuff imo!

This was confirmed at Gamescom…surprised at this and a huge loss for Sony…wow..The reboot was an amazing game and the sequel should be even more impressive

I feel like it's a big loss for SE, though. It's a game people would love to have, but it's not like it'll move systems like a Halo or Uncharted. And there are many more PS4s sold right now than the competition.

I'm particularly shocked at the idea of it not being on PC even.

I think it's good for competition. PS4 has Uncharted 4, Xbox One has Tomb Raider. Lucky owners of both consoles have both to choose from.

Unfortunately for me, i don't plan on owning both consoles so i am quite prepared to miss out on some exclusives like i did last gen, that's just the way it goes.

@Kevin5…well said. Xbox has set itself up nicely for holiday 2015 with Tomb Raider and Halo 5. They needed to do something to move more consoles.

@Kevin5,which console do you buy[or already got]? as bad as i want Tomb Raider,i also will buy only 1 ,for me it will be ps4.
I think a good competition is not bad for gamers, but this is awful,a game like tombraider[ a gameserie that is so long multiplatform] should be on all consoles, but that's the way it is

@slowandsmart: This is MS counterpunch to Uncharted 4. It is a business and they need to move more consoles…this move will help.

@surfer:oh Yes,MS did a strong and good businessmove, but that doesn't make it less awful.

@slowandsmart…agreed 100%…basically I am going to miss either Uncharted 4 or Rise of Tomb Raider..stinks

I have a hard time believing Tomb Raider will move that many consoles. (last one sold 2.22 mil on PS3 and 1.71mil on 360… this is late into the generation, too) Might make a small dent in Europe, admittedly. You never know, though.

At any rate, given everything that happened in the PS3/360 gen, I'll continue to sit tight on a next gen console until something I must have comes along. This TR will eventually make it's way to PS4 anyways. You can count on that.

To put my point about a dent into perspective, TLOU and all three Uncharted's each, on just the one PS3 console, outsold the new Tomb Raider game across both combined. The weakest performer, Drakes Fortune, outsold the 360 version of the new Tomb Raider by 2 and a half times.

This is just one reason why I don't think it'll make a big impact and will ultimately only serve to damage the TR brand. So much for SE "Rebooting" the franchise. They -need- it to be multiplat. (Not good enough on just the PS, either)

All true but good business move by MS…bottom line it will help sell consoles.

@slow and smart, I have the PS4. I'm not denying myself of the inevitable Last of Us sequel. I also love the look of The Order 1886 & Bloodborne. Not going to lie though, am pretty pissed i wont get to play Killer Instinct or TR, but i'll get over it.
